Full job description

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager - Highways and Infrastructure to lead the successful delivery of a highways infrastructure project in Bristol. You will hold full responsibility for programme, cost, quality, and health & safety, ensuring efficient delivery of highways and associated works while maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Take full ownership of delivering transportation infrastructure projects safely, on programme, and within budget
Lead and coordinate site teams, including Site Managers, Engineers, Supervisors, and Foremen
Oversee delivery of highways, roads, drainage, and associated utility works
Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, local authorities, and key stakeholders
Chair progress meetings and provide clear, accurate reporting to senior leadership
Plan and manage subcontractors, labour, plant, and materials in line with programme requirements
Work closely with the commercial team to manage variations, valuations, and overall cost control
Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards, particularly within live traffic environments
Monitor programme performance and proactively manage risks, delays, and logistical challenges
Drive efficient delivery in line with traffic management constraints and public interface requirements
Complete company IT systems induction and training within the first 1–3 months

Requirements

Section 278 Works experience a Essential
CITB SMSTS (5-Day) or equivalent
First Aid at Work certification
Proven experience as a Project Manager or Senior Site Manager within transportation infrastructure or highways projects
Strong knowledge of highways construction, drainage, utilities, and traffic management
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
Experience managing projects in live or public-facing environments
Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage costs effectively
Reliable, proactive, and solution-focused approach
Right to work in the UK

Desirable

Degree, HNC, or HND in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
Experience delivering transportation infrastructure or highways projects valued at £5m+
NRSWA (Street Works) qualification
