Come and build electronic devices with us!

We are looking for someone to assist with the production of our IoT devices, and our preference is for someone with little relevant experience and a lot of enthusiasm.

The role includes all aspects of electronic product assembly and testing (the "core" work) but there will be a large portion of "other bits". We think someone who likes to jump in, try new things, learn and help out will thrive and grow in this job. We intend to provide several clear progression routes (more technical, more customer facing, more coding, more 3D printing...) if the fit is right. Please don't apply if you only see this role as a stepping stone though.

Previous experience isn't as important as attitude towards work, but experience in the tech sector is welcome. We'll provide all the training you need.

About The role

Responsibilities: what you'll be doing most of the time

Assist with general assembly (building GPS trackers). This involves lots of different hands on processes, but mostly you'll be working with a soldering iron and a screwdriver. Spray painting, drilling, gluing and 3d printing are pretty common too.
Quality Control: we never want a customer to receive a faulty device and you will be expected to play a part in getting us as close to that goal as possible.
Stock control and general office upkeep: ensuring we always have kit on hand, in the right place to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
From time to time assisting in other roles, such as picking orders, dispatching goods, or helping on some of our development projects.

About You

You have an ability and willingness to work with your hands and general desire to learn. In-house basic electronics training will be provided. Eventually formal training will be offered where required, when you move beyond what we have to teach.
Some previous experience with hands on projects (DIY, hobbies, or fixing things at home count)
You take pride in the small tasks and a job well done. There's no way around this: sometimes it will be a repetitive job.
Communication skills: you need to be a team player and communicate clearly with the rest of us.
Good organisational skills. We can be working on 10 different projects at once and you'll need to manage all the different things without dropping the ball. Ultimately the responsibility will be on your manager to get planning right, but you'll need to help where you can.
You tend to be pretty happy about life, despite everything it throws at you: obviously we can't interview for this nor is it a requirement, but we're a cheery bunch and we find work is better when you like your colleagues...
Basic computer literacy - lots of the internal tools we use are software based. They're not especially complex, but using them will be a big part of the role

Lightbug is a GPS Tracking and “IoT” (smart connected stuff) company engaged in a massive range of projects. We’re only small, but we’re actively working on high end sports tracking, ultra high precision personnel safety applications (for Network Rail), plastic waste tracking (with TheOceanCleanup), smart bikes, shipment tracking… the list goes on.
