Full job description

Job Title: Workshop Mechanic

Department: Workshop
Location: Quantum Traffic Management South (Newport)
Employment Type: Full-time
Salary: Competitive – to be discussed during interview

Job Purpose

To inspect, service, repair, and maintain a range of company vehicles, including taillifts and specialist auxiliary equipment. You will play a key role in ensuring all vehicles remain safe, roadworthy, compliant, and operational to support the smooth running of the business.

Role Responsibilities

Perform routine servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on the company fleet.
Efficiently diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical faults.
Carry out preventative maintenance inspections and safety checks to minimise downtime.
Replace timing belts at scheduled intervals (primarily on Ford Transits and Iveco Daily vehicles).
Service and maintain taillift mechanisms (knowledge of taillifts is highly desirable).
Accurately complete all maintenance records, service reports, inspection sheets, and repair documentation.
Ensure full compliance with health & safety regulations and company policies at all times.

Role Requirements

Proven experience as a Mechanic, Plant Fitter, or Fleet Maintenance Technician.
Strong working knowledge of diesel engines and fleet vehicle maintenance.
Ability to diagnose faults using both traditional and diagnostic equipment.
Sound understanding of workshop health & safety procedures.
Ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills with good communication abilities.
Relevant mechanical qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent) is preferred.
Previous experience working on HGVs is advantageous but not essential.
Full UK driving licence is essential.
LOLER awareness is beneficial.
