About Us

Taste of Northumberland is an exciting new restaurant, café and village shop celebrating the very best of Northumberland. We are passionate about exceptional food, outstanding customer service and creating a welcoming destination for both local residents and visitors.

We’re looking for a talented, enthusiastic and ambitious Head Chef to lead our kitchen from the very beginning and help establish Taste of Northumberland as one of the area’s leading food destinations.

The Role

As Head Chef you will have full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the kitchen. You’ll lead and inspire your team, maintain the highest food standards and work closely with senior management to develop exciting seasonal menus that showcase local produce.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll spend time cooking, training your team and ensuring every customer receives an exceptional dining experience.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, motivate and develop the kitchen team.
Prepare and cook high-quality food to consistently high standards.
Design and develop seasonal menus using fresh, local ingredients.
Maintain excellent food presentation and portion control.
Manage kitchen rotas and staffing levels.
Order food and kitchen supplies within agreed budgets.
Carry out regular stock takes and minimise waste.
Monitor gross profit and food cost percentages.
Ensure full compliance with food safety legislation and HACCP procedures.
Maintain outstanding kitchen cleanliness and organisation.
Ensure allergen information is accurate and procedures are followed.
Train, coach and support junior chefs and kitchen assistants.
Work closely with the Front of House team to deliver excellent customer service.
Assist with special events, themed evenings and seasonal promotions.
Ensure all equipment is maintained and faults reported promptly.
Promote a positive, professional and supportive working environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

Previous experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef.
Strong leadership and people management skills.
Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
Passion for fresh food and quality ingredients.
Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene legislation.
Experience managing kitchen budgets and food costs.
Ability to perform well under pressure.
Excellent communication skills.
Flexible approach to working hours.

Qualifications

Level 3 Food Safety (or willingness to obtain).
Level 2 HACCP (desirable).
Relevant catering qualification (preferred but not essential).
First Aid qualification (desirable).

Professional kitchen: 3 years (preferred)
