Assistant Housing Officer

Permanent

Grade B - £28,598 - £34,434

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Birmingham City Council's Housing Management service and provide a real difference for the tenants and neighbourhoods within this city.

We are recruiting for a vital role within our Housing service, delivering a front-line visiting service to tenants across Birmingham. Vacancies are currently available in both the North and South of the city , although roles may operate across all areas as required.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Housing Officers and working as part of a wider team, you will provide a proactive visiting service within local neighbourhoods. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same.

You will manage a wide range of housing management enquiries, using your problem-solving skills to resolve issues at the earliest opportunity. The role includes:

Conducting tenant visits within the community
Managing and investigating housing-related cases
Providing advice, guidance, and signposting to appropriate services
Referring cases to relevant third-party organisations where needed

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as you will be working closely with tenants, colleagues, and external partners.

Working Arrangements:

This is a hybrid role , combining home and office working. However, you will be expected to spend the majority of your time out in your designated neighbourhoods.

About You:

Ability to manage a varied workload and respond to different enquiries daily
Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
Excellent communication and people skills
Experience in housing or knowledge of relevant legislation is desirable

Full training on systems, policies, and procedures will be provided.

Additional Information:

A full driving licence is preferred, but not essential
Housing-related experience is desirable
