We have an exciting opportunity for a Civils Assistant Project Manager to join our Midlands Team.

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will initially support the Contracts Manager in coordinating project activities, ensuring all client requirements are met. This includes overseeing health and safety, cost control, programme delivery, document management, and quality standards.

This role offers a clear development pathway, with the opportunity to progress into a Project Manager position within 6–18 months.

What we are looking for in you……

Demonstrable experience in civil engineering/highways/S278 within a supervisory or management role
A candidate looking to progress into a Project Manager position within 12–18 months
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams
Ability to confidently brief health and safety information and interpret drawings effectively
Good awareness of contract programme requirements
Ability to work accurately under pressure and to tight timescales; reliable and self-motivated
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Strong problem-solving ability
Knowledge of industry regulations and best practice
Minimum 5 years’ construction management experience
NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management (minimum), CSCS Supervisor/Manager card, SMSTS
Desirable (training can be provided): Temporary Works Coordinator, First Aid, Appointed Person

More about the Assistant Project Manager role…

Support the successful delivery of contracts across safety, quality, environmental, programme, and commercial performance
Assist in ensuring all operations are carried out in line with current Health, Safety & Environmental legislation
Support the management of site-based personnel
Assist in managing client relationships and site team coordination
Maintain a working knowledge of NEC3 and JCT forms of contract
Apply knowledge of construction methods and techniques
Support the management of direct labour, subcontractors, plant hire, and materials
Provide accurate management information to the Contracts Manager, Project Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager as required
Assist in managing contracts with a focus on maximising margins
Maintain a working knowledge of programming software
Assist in the preparation of safety documentation (CPP, RAMS, Risk Assessments, COSHH, etc.)
Work clearly and accurately under pressure and to tight timescales
