We are looking for someone to join us as a Civil Engineering Apprentice. Whether you have recently left education or if you are looking to change career, this is an fantastic opportunity to join the team. Our degree apprenticeship programme offers you the opportunity to study for a degree, completely cost free, whilst gaining work-based practical experience. Not only will you be supported by a wide team of professionals you will also be assigned a workplace ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) registered Mentor to support you through this opportunity in becoming a professionally qualified Civil Engineer.
You will be a highly motivated, resilient, logical thinker and in return, our apprenticeship offers structured development, providing the perfect foundations for your engineering career. The programme is for a period of up to five years and will give you valuable practical skills as well as academic knowledge from our educational partner, the University of Derby.
You can expect to:
- gain hands on experience by working on exciting and meaningful construction projects for our industry leading teams
- work within a team that has designed award winning engineering solutions
- gain work-based experience required for professional Incorporated Engineering (IEng) status with the ICE
- upon successful completion of your academic studies, you will hold a Level 6 ICE accredited BEng (Hons) Degree in Civil Engineering
- not pay a single penny for the Degree Apprenticeship tuition fees!
Entry requirements for the Degree Apprenticeship are as follows:
Minimum academic qualifications of at least 96 UCAS points or above at A-level or equivalent, to include Mathematics plus at least one further STEM-based subject such as Physics, ICT, Computing and Electronics.
Apprenticeship candidates will typically have at least three A-levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science or their equivalent or will have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering Technician, plus five GCSEs at Grade A-C or 5-9 including Mathematics, English Language and Double Science or equivalent qualification.
As an Apprentice Engineer, you will help to contribute and resolve the impacts of historical mining through designing, procuring and overseeing the construction of civil engineering solutions.
You'll be part of our experienced and friendly Engineering team who pride themselves on their structured mentoring programme for professional development and valuable training. You will receive training and experience in a wide range of civil engineering disciplines including structural engineering and geotechnical engineering. You will also be working alongside environmental scientists and project managers to ensure that designs deliver sustainability and environmental improvements.
The post will involve hybrid working and it is anticipated that typically 3 days on average will be within the Mansfield office subject to working patterns and business requirements, with day release to the University of Derby (28 days a year). Visits to our construction sites across the country will be required which transport and accommodation will be provided for.
An apprenticeship offer will be subject to acceptance onto the Degree Apprenticeship at the University of Derby. Applications to this apprenticeship will need to be made through the Mining Remediation Authority who will coordinate the process between the three parties of prospective Apprentice, University of Derby and the Mining Remediation Authority.
You will be employed on a fixed term contract which will be subject to the ongoing successful completion of the apprenticeship programme and working in accordance with the values and behaviours of the Authority.
Your pay will be linked to your qualification and performance milestones throughout the life of the apprenticeship. Job responsibilities and competency levels will be updated each academic year to reflect the knowledge, skills and experience gained. A starting salary of £24,454 per annum, progressing to £34k + (based on current salaries) upon IEng award.
