About this opportunity
We are creating a new in-house removals section within Richfords.
Richfords Fire and Flood is one of the UK’s leading Damage Management and Restoration companies. For over 40 years, we have helped homeowners and businesses recover after fire, flood and other unexpected property damage.
Our work is about Giving People Their Lives Back. Our role is to act quickly, professionally and practically to help them recover.
We are a values-based company. Of all our values, Responsiveness is the leading one. There are no roles in the company that are not impacted by this aspect of
"the work". This is an inescapable reality. We are a 24 hour response Company with fire and flood damage events occurring at any time and can impact us outside 'normal' working hours of 9-5.
The role
You will lead removals activity connected to fire and flood restoration work. This may include removing contents from damaged homes and businesses, protecting valuable or sentimental items, coordinating safe transport and storage, and returning items once properties are ready.
You will often be working with customers who are distressed, disrupted or under pressure. Their property may have been damaged by fire, water, smoke or contamination. They may not know what can be saved, what needs to be moved, or what happens next.
Your job is to bring calm, order and practical expertise.
You will need to be hands-on, organised, physically capable and comfortable leading others on site. You will also need to work closely with Richfords’ project managers, technicians, administrators and external stakeholders to make sure removals work is carried out safely, efficiently and professionally.
What you’ll do
- Lead removals work on customer sites after fire, flood and other property damage incidents.
- Pack, protect, load, transport, store and return customers’ possessions with care and professionalism.
- Supervise and develop a small team of removers.
- Set high standards for site conduct, vehicle loading, manual handling, customer communication and care of possessions.
- Attend urgent jobs where a quick response is needed to protect property or prevent further loss.
- Drive company vehicles, potentially including HGV vehicles.
- Keep accurate records of works completed, items moved and any issues identified.
- Work overtime when required.
- Support the company’s emergency response capability, including during severe weather or major surge events.
About you
You are an experienced removals professional who takes pride in doing the job properly.
You know how to pack, move and protect contents safely. You understand how to lead a team on site, how to load a vehicle properly, how to manage fragile or high-value items, and how to keep work moving when conditions are difficult.
You are not just looking for another driving or removals job. You are ready to help build something.
You are likely to be the person others turn to when a job is complicated, awkward or sensitive. You know how to stay calm, think clearly and get the work done.
You will also need to connect strongly with the purpose of our work: giving people their lives back after unexpected property damage.
We’re looking for someone who
- Has significant experience in removals, logistics, transport or a closely related practical trade.
- Has experience leading or supervising small teams.
- Is highly practical, organised and physically capable.
- Has excellent standards of care when handling customers’ possessions.
- Can communicate well with customers, colleagues and managers.
- Is calm under pressure and able to make sensible decisions on site.
- Has strong attention to detail and can complete basic records accurately.
- Ideally holds an HGV licence.
- Over 25 years old due to insurance obligations.
Working hours and responsiveness
This is not a regular 9-to-5 role.
Our customers need us when damage happens, and that can be outside normal working hours. Responsiveness is central to Richfords and must be central to this role.
You will be paid for overtime worked. You may also be required to support emergency response activity, including during severe weather events or periods of high demand.
There will be times when quick action protects a customer’s possessions, reduces further damage and helps return their life to normal sooner. This is a key part of the role.
What we offer
- Competitive pay.
- Paid overtime.
- Company pension.
- Health and wellbeing programme.
- Training and development.
- The opportunity to lead and shape a new section of the business.
- A practical, varied role with real responsibility.
- The satisfaction of helping people recover after serious disruption.
Why this role matters
When a customer has suffered fire or flood damage, their possessions are often at the centre of the crisis. Furniture, clothes, documents, equipment, family items and valuables may all need to be moved quickly and carefully. A good removals operation can make an enormous difference to these customers.
