Job Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION

Post title: Support Worker

Reports to: Senior Support Worker/Team Leader

Hours: As per offer letter and contract

Location: Northamptonshire

Overall purpose of the post

To:

Work as part of the team to provide a caring, supportive, and stimulating environment within which each person we support is able to fulfil their own potential.
Encourage and develop the skills and independence in all walks as life of the people we support.
Help those who we support prepare meals and drinks.
Contribute to looking at opportunities for people we support working closely with their Circle of Support
Assist and help people we support with their shopping, preparing meals and drinks, looking after their home, socialising and personal care and appearance
Assist in the development and maintenance of all support plans
Assist people to manage and administer their medication
Assist people we support with their daily activities at home and within the community
Support people to live safely in their own home, pay bills and ensure their home and belongings are looked after well
Contribute ideas to ensure good support for people we support
Involve the people we support in their care and share good practice with others
Positively contribute to the organisations values and vision
Assist in the creation of support plans and other administration tasks
Use a range of moving and handling and transporting vehicles as necessary to help and support people with limited mobility in accordance with appropriate training, policies and procedures.
Carry out all duties in a professional and courteous manner with an understanding of the impact of your actions and attitudes on people we support, colleagues, relatives, professionals and visitors.
Follow instructions and adhere to care plans and organisational policies to provide a high standard of personalised support in line with CQC Fundamental standards.
Demonstrate awareness and understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs.
Take responsibility within remit of own role for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and other persons, and to comply with the legislation, policies and procedures relating to health and safety, staff training and supervision within the organisation.
Take responsibility to safeguard people we support from harm and abuse with an expectation to report any suspected cases without delay
Carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description and which are commensurate with the skills level of the post.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Education and Qualifications

Literate and numerate, having attained a good level of basic education.
Ability to undertake all mandatory and developmental training.
A willingness to work toward a level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care
Basic level of English and Math

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

NVQ level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care.

Experience working in the Health and Social care sector

Hold a Full Uk Driving License

Experience and knowledge

Knowledge of basic health, safety and hygiene standards.
Knowledge of CQC Fundamental Standards.
Evidence of competence in and a commitment to personal and professional development.
Record activities and data relating to people we support
Competence in administering of medicines
Experience working in the Health and Social care sector

Ability and Skills

Good level of interpersonal and communication skills
The ability to deal with people of all temperaments
Support and care for and encourage people we support
The ability to work to a daily routine with a flexible approach
Work as a member of a team
Able to use your initiative, to be creative and think ‘outside of the box’
To be physically able to attend to all residents and tenants needs
The ability to follow instructions, procedures and guidelines
Be able to always maintain a professional approach
To feel confident in communicating issues
Work flexibly
Comfortable with making decisions
Able to build strong relationships
Be friendly, patient and kind
Excellent customer service
Work with the minimum of supervision
Act as keyworker to named people who we support
