Responsibilities
As an Associate/Senior Structural Engineer, you will:
- Deliver projects with a comprehensive understanding of structural design and detailing, adhering to UK and European codes of practice.
- Develop preliminary design solutions and collaborate with clients to establish design strategies.
- Produce detailed designs, calculations, specifications, and technical reviews.
- Attend design, project progress, and client engagement meetings.
- Liaise with contractors, clients, third-party organizations, and stakeholders, addressing technical queries.
- Design structures in various materials, including steel, reinforced/precast concrete, masonry, and timber.
- Conduct structural appraisals of commercial, industrial, and residential structures.
- Manage project costs, timelines, and sustainability criteria.
- Ensure compliance with designers’ duties under the CDM Regulations.
- Create sketches, drawings, and structural appraisal reports.
- Supervise CAD/Revit technicians and junior engineers, providing guidance on technical and construction details.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of work produced by the team.
- Identify and pursue business development opportunities with existing and potential clients.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- A strong understanding of practical and theoretical structural behavior.
- Proficiency in designing with timber, masonry, steel, and concrete to British Standards or Eurocodes.
- Experience conducting structural surveys for residential and commercial properties.
- Expertise in structural analysis and design software.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to review and ensure the accuracy of work.
- A proactive and diligent approach, with the ability to work independently when required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a client-focused mindset.
- A minimum 2:1 BSc/BEng in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent.
- A full UK driving license and access to personal transport.
- Chartered status or active progression towards Chartership with IStructE or ICE.
- At least 6 years of relevant experience in structural engineering.
Day-to-Day
Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with a team of engineers to deliver innovative and sustainable structural solutions.
- Engaging with clients and stakeholders to ensure project alignment with their vision and requirements.
- Conducting structural analyses, preparing detailed designs, and overseeing technical reviews.
- Mentoring junior staff and supervising CAD/Revit technicians.
- Managing project timelines, budgets, and sustainability goals.
- Attending meetings to discuss project progress and resolve technical challenges.
- Contributing to the development of unique and bespoke projects, including conservation and heritage work.
