Become part of something exciting!
Baywood Accounting Ltd is looking for an experienced Accountant & Bookkeeper to join us on our next stage of our growth.
Baywood is a growing, construction-specialist accountancy practice supporting sole traders and limited companies across the construction and property sectors. We provide bookkeeping, CIS, VAT, payroll, Self-Assessments and year-end accounts.
We’re a professional practice with plenty of personality and a strong focus on genuinely getting to know the people behind the businesses we work with.
We take the quality of our work incredibly seriously, but we also believe accountancy should be friendly, approachable and human.
The Opportunity
The role is 2 days per week – Monday, and either Tuesday or Thursday – working 7-hour days. It could be ideal for someone looking for a meaningful, reliable part-time role alongside family life or another commitment.
Our anticipated start date is 5th October 2026, with interviews taking place during September.
You’ll work across a portfolio of small businesses, with a particular focus on the construction and property sectors.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Preparing limited company year-end accounts
· Preparing Corporation Tax computations and returns
· Preparing and submitting Self-Assessment tax returns
· Preparing and submitting VAT Returns
· Supporting clients with accounting and tax queries
· Working predominantly with Xero and FreeAgent
· Updating Client Engager and shared drive records accurately
· Communicating directly with clients in a personable and professional way
· Supporting client bookkeeping and Baywood’s own bookkeeping
· Keeping accurate and organised client records
· Answering incoming calls and providing general office support
· Working closely with the Founder as part of the day-to-day running of the practice
Payroll experience would be welcomed as there may be scope for this to form part of the role, but is not essential.
The Person We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone warm, confident and approachable who enjoys building relationships with people and understands that excellent customer service is just as important as excellent technical work.
You’ll be confident working independently and taking ownership of your workload.
You’ll also be someone who genuinely enjoys the finer details. A well-reconciled Balance Sheet will be satisfying, and if something doesn’t look right, you’ll want to understand why. You’ll naturally investigate discrepancies, question anything unusual, and have a real focus on producing accurate, high-quality work.
Requirements
· Minimum AAT Level 4 qualification or equivalent recognised accounting qualification
· Previous experience working within a UK accountancy practice
· Experience independently preparing limited company year-end accounts
· Experience preparing and submitting Self Assessment tax returns
· Experience using Xero and FreeAgent
· Experience working with construction businesses and CIS
What You’ll Get From the Role
· Genuine flexibility – an understanding approach to appointments and everyday life
· Trust – you’ll be given total autonomy and responsibility for your work
· A voice in the practice – you’ll work closely with the Founder and have the opportunity to contribute ideas as Baywood develops
· Christmas shutdown without using your annual leave allowance
· The opportunity to join Baywood at an exciting stage and become an important part of the team as the practice grows
Where You’ll Work
We’re actively seeking Baywood’s new permanent office base in the Southampton / New Forest area. Depending on the timing of the agreed start date and our office move, you may temporarily work alongside the Founder from a professional local co-working space on a temporary basis.
Thereafter, this is an office-based role at a fixed address.
