CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent / Full-time
DEPARTMENT: Classical Music, BBC Audio Wales
LOCATION: BBC Cardiff, Central Square (office based at least 3 days per week)
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £33,500 - £43,500 - depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Based in BBC Cardiff Central Square, you will bring your passion and experience of audio production and storytelling, as well as knowledge of live music production, to be part of a team making a wide range of classical music and arts output for BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3, BBC World Service, BBC Radio Wales and BBC Sounds.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
You will primarily be working on Radio 3 strands such as Composer of the Week and Radio 3 concerts, where you will be responsible for the development, research, setting up, scripting, recording, editing and delivery of these programmes.
You will also be expected to develop and pitch arts and music features to Radio 3, Radio 4 and the World Service.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Research, develop and produce high-quality classical music and arts content across a range of platforms, ensuring output is engaging, accurate and audience-focused.
Prepare research and script materials for presenters, including programme briefs, feature content and supporting editorial information.
Arrange, coordinate and oversee studio and on-location recordings, ensuring productions are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.
Produce and manage concert recordings and other music programming, supporting delivery from concept through to broadcast.
Work closely with presenters, contributors, production teams and external partners to create compelling and innovative content.
Oversee editing, post-production and programme delivery, ensuring all output meets editorial, technical, accessibility and compliance standards.
Manage production schedules, budgets and resources effectively, delivering projects to deadline while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Demonstrable experience of producing radio programmes or podcasts
Demonstrable knowledge of classical music and understanding of music history
Experience of writing clear and concise material for briefs, scripts or digital platforms
Experience of working closely with presenters in a broadcast environment
Ability to develop creative ideas, which engage diverse audiences in a demanding creative environment
DESIRABLE:
Knowledge of the classical music industry and wider arts world.
Experience creating content for digital, social and on-demand platforms.
Experience supporting live broadcasts or live events.
Knowledge of audio production, editing software or broadcast systems.
Experience working with artists, contributors or high-profile talent.
