About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled Laminator to join our fabrication team, working on high-quality marine composite structures including hulls, decks, and interior components.
You’ll play a key role in the manufacturing, repair and finishing of GRP and composite parts, ensuring all work meets strict quality and safety standards. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment, ideal for someone with strong attention to detail and a passion for craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture GRP components using hand lay-up, vacuum bagging and other composite techniques
- Prepare moulds and surfaces, including applying release agents
- Mix and apply resins, gelcoats and catalysts to specification
- Trim, cut, drill and finish composite components
- Perform repairs and modifications to existing GRP parts
- Ensure correct fibre orientation, thickness and resin ratios
- Safely operate hand and power tools (e.g. sanders, grinders)
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment
- Collaborate with engineering, production and quality teams to meet deadlines
About You:
Essential:
- Proven experience in GRP or composite fabrication (ideally marine)
- Strong understanding of fibreglass lay-up techniques and materials
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and lay-up schedules
- Skilled in hand lay-up and wet lay-up (vacuum infusion/RTM beneficial)
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Awareness of safe handling of resins, chemicals and composites
- Physically capable of manual work
Desirable:
- NVQ / City & Guilds in Composite Manufacturing, Marine Engineering or similar
- Experience in plug or mould making
- Knowledge of carbon fibre and epoxy systems
- Background in boatbuilding or marine repairs
