Location: Walsall and surrounding areas
Hours: 10–30 hours per week, depending on availability and placement needs

Job Description

We are looking for experienced SEND tutors to support children and young people across Walsall and the surrounding areas.

This is a face-to-face tutoring role within alternative provision, working with students who may be outside of mainstream education or receiving support through council-funded provision, EHCPs, EOTAS, or specialist educational placements.

We are looking for tutors who are confident, reliable, and experienced in supporting young people with a range of additional needs. This may include ADHD, autism, SEMH needs, trauma-related behaviours, vulnerable learners, challenging behaviour, low confidence, or students who require a more personalised and flexible approach to learning.

Placements can vary depending on the needs of the student. Some roles may focus on academic support such as English, Maths or Functional Skills, while others may involve engagement-based learning, behaviour support, confidence building, routines, life skills, or reintroducing learning in a calm and structured way.

About the Role

Successful applicants will be onboarded onto our tutoring systems and considered for suitable local placements as they become available. New roles usually come through weekly or biweekly, and once matched to a student, tutors are usually assigned to that placement until the end of term or for the agreed duration of support.

Hours can range from around 10 to 30 hours per week depending on your availability, experience, and the requirements of each placement.

Main Responsibilities

Deliver face-to-face tutoring and support to SEND learners
Adapt sessions to suit each student’s needs, ability and behaviour
Support students with academic progress, engagement and confidence
Work with children who may have EHCPs, SEMH needs, trauma backgrounds or challenging behaviour
Maintain a calm, professional and safe learning environment
Complete session reports and follow safeguarding procedures
Communicate professionally with the wider coordination team

We Are Looking For Someone Who Has

Experience working with SEND, SEMH, alternative provision or vulnerable learners
Confidence supporting students with ADHD, autism, trauma, behaviour needs or EHCPs
A patient, consistent and professional approach
Strong communication and behaviour management skills
Ability to work face-to-face in the Walsall area
A genuine passion for helping children who may struggle in mainstream education

Desirable Experience

Tutoring, teaching, mentoring, youth work or support work experience
Experience with Functional Skills, English, Maths or core subject intervention
Experience working in schools, alternative provision, care settings or specialist education
Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries

Requirements

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
Right to work in the UK
Two professional references
Ability to travel to face-to-face placements
Reliability and strong communication

Pay

Competitive hourly rate, discussed depending on experience and placement requirements.
