Role Purpose
To support the Crematorium Manager in the effective management of crematorium operations, ensuring the highest standards of service, administration, compliance and support for bereaved families and funeral directors.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Support the Crematorium Manager in the day to day running of the crematorium.
Assist with staff coordination, rota planning and operational organisation.
Primary point of contact for liaising with the team escalation.
Ensure funeral services operate smoothly, professionally and in accordance with the crematorium timetable.
Assist in managing vehicle movements and traffic flow within the crematorium grounds to ensure safe and respectful access for funeral corteges and visitors.
Provide operational support across all areas of the crematorium when required.
Deputy Responsibilities
Act as Deputy to the Crematorium Manager and assume responsibility for the day to day management of the crematorium in their absence.
Ensure the crematorium continues to operate safely, efficiently and in accordance with all relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and organisational policies.
Provide operational direction and support to staff, ensuring funeral services, cremations and public interactions are managed to the highest professional standards.
Address operational issues that arise during this period and escalate significant matters to senior management where necessary.
Administration and Systems
Manage cremation bookings and maintain the crematorium scheduling system.
Ensure cremation documentation is received, checked and processed in accordance with statutory requirements.
Maintain accurate operational records relating to services, cremations and memorialisation.
Ensure all administrative procedures are carried out efficiently and confidentially.
Financial Administration
Prepare and issue invoices relating to cremation and memorial services.
Record payments received and maintain accurate financial records.
Assist with financial reporting and reconciliation as required by the Crematorium Manager.
Stakeholder Engagement
Act as a key point of contact for funeral directors, families and members of the public.
Provide information on cremation services, memorial options and crematorium procedures.
Conduct tours of the crematorium and memorial gardens when requested.
Complaints Handling
Act as the first point of contact for complaints and concerns raised by families, funeral directors or members of the public.
Seek to resolve concerns promptly, professionally and with empathy where possible.
Record complaints appropriately and escalate unresolved or serious matters to the Crematorium Manager in accordance with company procedures.
Memorialisation Support
Support the Crematorium Manager in the promotion and administration of memorialisation services offered by the crematorium.
Provide information to families regarding available memorial options in a sensitive and supportive manner.
Assist families who wish to witness or take part in the scattering or interment of ashes within the crematorium grounds, ensuring the process is conducted with dignity and respect.
Assist in maintaining accurate memorial records and ensuring memorial installations and inscriptions are processed correctly.
Contribute to maintaining high standards of service while ensuring families are provided with appropriate information to make informed decisions.
Cremation Operations Support
Assist with cremation procedures where appropriately trained and authorised.
Support identification procedures and ensure correct handling and storage of cremated remains.
Assist in maintaining the dignity, respect and traceability required throughout the cremation process.
Compliance and Standards
Support compliance with all relevant cremation legislation, environmental requirements and regulatory guidance.
Assist in maintaining health and safety standards across the crematorium.
Ensure operational procedures reflect recognised professional standards within the cremation sector.
Additional Duties
Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support the efficient operation of the crematorium.
Provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence, leave or increased operational demand.
Assist with the organisation and delivery of memorial events, open days or community engagement activities where required.
Participate in training and professional development to maintain operational competence and sector knowledge.
