Learning Support Assistant(s)

Part time: 37 hours per week x 39 weeks (term time )

NJC pay scale level 5 SCP 8 - 12 starting at £26,824 per annum pro rata

We are expanding our Pathways offer for 16-19 learners and are looking for additional Learning Support Assistants.

It is an exciting time to join Southend City Community College (formally Southend Adult Community College)

We are a growing college with an exciting future supporting the City of Southend, Rochford and Castle Point.

A new brand with new vision, our college is positioning itself as a major provider for young people to flourish and thrive in a supportive environment.

Our Learning Support Assistants are part of our effective learning support programme, and we provide a staff mentoring and wellbeing scheme.

We are looking for vibrant, engaged Learning Support Assistants to complement the professional work of the tutors by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under the agreed system of supervision.

This will include support on vocational pathways and English and Maths sessions.

Providing support and guidance to young people and those engaged with them at removing barriers to learning to promote effective participation, raise aspiration and achieve full potential. Supporting learners who will have SEN needs or EHCP (Education Health Care Plans)

You will be part of a unique strategy to empower our young learners to gain the vocational skills required for work and life.

You may be an established young persons support worker or looking for your first post in post 16 education and have the personality and drive to really connect with our learners.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting our learners on a day-by-day basis. This is rewarding work and you can make a real difference to learners who may have SEN or have been out of education for a while.

The successful candidate(s) will be employed on a contractual basis, 37 hours per week, term time only with the expectation of supporting at both our Southchurch and Leigh on Sea campuses as required.

There will be a requirement to attend team meetings, open evenings and take part in enrolment activities.

Key Responsibilities

You will be assigned to a vocational area based on your qualifications and experience.

As a Learning Support Assistant you are not required to teach and are not required to have subject-specific knowledge.

As a Learning Support Assistant you are deployed to concentrate on the needs of the learners. The tutor will direct activities and there is an expectation that you will work closely together.

Pre-employment checks and training will include safeguarding training and a sound understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Term Time Only - Monday - Thursday 8.45am - 4.45pm - Friday 9.00am - 4.30pm
