About The Role

At WWT, we believe that the best way for people to understand and connect to wetlands is to experience them, so we bring awe-inspiring nature up close. We are looking for friendly, outgoing volunteers to support visitor activities over the summer holidays, bringing experiences to life! You will be directly involved in shaping unforgettable visitor encounters through your warm welcome, positive interactions, and the educational information & activities that you provide.

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team, and we wouldn’t be able to maintain our internationally important wetland sites without their help. You will receive a very warm welcome, full induction & training, and be provided with the necessary equipment, uniform, and anything else needed to thrive in your role.

Main tasks

This summer Martin Mere has a range of activities available for visitors, so this role would involve:

Assisting with the visitor service desk – meeting and greeting visitors on arrival, selling bird food

Undertaking moth trapping activities, otter talks, and flamingo talks as well meeting and greeting visitors on arrival, selling bird seed and handing out the Dragonfly festival event guide.
Assisting with Dragonfly festival activities including a science show, storytime and a dragonfly bubble party.
Helping in the craft room to assist children making clay pots, badges, boats etc.
Helping to undertake the daily pond dipping activity by showing visitors what to do and helping to identify pond life

About You

No previous experience is required as training will be provided. However this role will suit you if you have a love of wildlife and the outdoors and are:

Confident or experienced in delivering talks
Able to work in a team of staff and volunteers
Experience in a customer related role would be advantageous
Able to communicate well to a diverse range of audiences
Familiar with Martin Mere centre

Role practicalities

We are particularly looking for volunteers who are available to help out 1-2 days a week from mid-July until end of August. This role is not suitable for people under 18 years.
