Derbyshire Cricket Foundation (DCF) is the Governing Body for recreational cricket in Derbyshire, delivering services in support of the cricket community across the county. It is one of 39 County Cricket Boards/Foundations in England & Wales and works in partnership with a number of key stakeholders to develop the recreational game locally in line with the strategy developed by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB). We have an ambition to inspire a generation to say, “Cricket is a game for me”. The DCF is also a registered charity that aims to improve well-being and provide opportunities for diverse communities across the County through cricket. The Business Development Manager will develop and leverage local partnerships with sponsors, stakeholders, and funding bodies to support these aims.
The primary work location for the Cricket Development Officer – Clubs & Volunteers will be at the County Ground, Nottingham Road, Derby, but the role will require travel on a regular basis as the role will be proactive in developing and delivering Volunteers and Club Development programmes across Derbyshire in support of the DCF strategic aims. The position provides an opportunity, for the Cricket Development Officer – Clubs & Volunteers to work flexibly, and this is likely to include the requirement to participate in some evening and weekend commitments.
Purpose and Focus of the Role
The Cricket Development Officer will be responsible for the delivery of both the DCF’s Volunteer Workforce and Welcoming and Inclusive Clubs Operational Plans, in collaboration with the Clubs and Leagues team. The successful candidate will be proactive in providing more opportunities for people to be involved in cricket as a volunteer, ensuring cricket is inclusive and accessible in all areas of the county. Working across the recreational game, the role will focus on creating inclusive environments, developing opportunities, and supporting clubs and communities to engage more with cricket. This role is central to achieving the DCF’s purpose to empower communities and improve lives through cricket, and to inspire a generation to say, “Cricket is a game for me. ”
Workforce Development
- Be responsible for the delivery of the Volunteer Workforce Operational Plan
- Support delivery of the Welcoming and Inclusive Clubs Operational Plan
- Grow and diversify the volunteer workforce by managing a varied programme of formal and informal courses throughout the year
- Work with ECB, ACO (Association of Cricket Officials), DCGA (Derbyshire Cricket Grounds Association) and other external partners to provide innovative development opportunities and CPD
- Continue DCF’s work to inspire young people to volunteer in cricket through initiatives like the Young Cricket Collective
- Provide a varied and inclusive Reward and Recognition programme for volunteers
- Assess demand for courses and development opportunities across a range of areas
Club Development
- Support the holistic development and growth of an allocated number of clubs in the county
- Focus on clubs in Derby City and South Derbyshire
- Develop strong relationships with allocated clubs
- Support clubs to become welcoming and inclusive clubs, with diverse and skilled volunteers and committees
- Attend Cricket Development Group meetings within your area to provide feedback and updates
- Support allocated clubs to attain ECB accreditation
- Support clubs to develop and maintain strong governance
- Work with the DCF Cricket Development Manager – Facilities, to identify and deliver Facility development plans and provide support to clubs to create welcoming environments
Programme Management
- Effective allocation of staff/ tutors to courses
- Venue and course capacity meets demand based on insight
- High quality communication with candidates and providers throughout the process
- Robust process for gathering feedback to inform future plans
Revenue Generation
- Work with Cricket Development Manager– Clubs, Leagues and Volunteers to identify new and innovative ways to generate revenue that support the aims and objectives of the Volunteer Workforce Operational Plan and the Welcoming & Inclusive Clubs Operational plan.
- Develop and deliver programmes that increase DCF revenue
- Identify funding opportunities that enable growth and sustainable outcomes.
Delivery of Business Priority Programmes
Work with other DCF team members to deliver priority programmes and initiatives to include:
- All Stars Cricket/Dynamos Cricket
- Women & Girls Cricket
- Club Competitions
- Disability Cricket
- Facility Investment
- Deliver other programmes as and when required by the business
- Impact and Insight
Impact and Insight
- Analyse survey data and feedback to understand programme relevance and impact.
- Produce case studies to showcase best practice and success stories.
- Use insights to inform future planning and delivery.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience in Sport Development, ideally in recreational sport
- Strong understanding of Safeguarding and Inclusion in sport
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills
- Ability to work independantly and as part of a team
- Own transport, full UK Driving licence and able to work from various locations
- Ability to be flexible and able to work evenings and weekends as required
DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- An understanding of cricket in Derbyshire
- Knowledge of ECB Programmes
- Background in workforce development in recreational sport
- Experience in event planning and delivery
- Knowledge and experience of operational planning & implementation
- An understanding of sport governance and policies
- An understanding of the the demographics of Derby City
