Harry Batten is an independent bakery based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. We make celebration cakes, wedding cakes, brownies, cookies and other bakes, delivering throughout Sussex, Surrey and London, as well as sending selected products nationwide.

The business started from a home kitchen and has grown steadily over the years. We now work from our purpose-built bakery in Burgess Hill, where our team makes and decorates everything by hand.

We're a busy bakery, particularly during the summer and at weekends, and we pride ourselves on making good-quality products consistently while keeping a friendly and straightforward place to work.

As the business continues to grow, we're looking for another baker to join our production team.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

Weighing and preparing ingredients
Mixing cake batters and doughs according to our recipes
Baking cakes, brownies, cookies and other products
Preparing cake tins and trays for production
Checking bakes for consistency and quality
Cooling, storing and organising baked products correctly
Following daily production lists and ensuring orders are completed on time
Keeping your workspace and equipment clean and organised
Following food hygiene and health & safety procedures
Washing and cleaning equipment when required
Helping with other general bakery production tasks as required

What We're Looking For

Previous bakery experience is preferred but is not essential, as full training will be provided.

More importantly, we're looking for someone who:

Is reliable and punctual
Has excellent attention to detail
Can follow recipes and instructions accurately
Is organised and able to work efficiently
Is comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment
Works well as part of a team
Takes pride in producing consistently high-quality work
Is happy working in a practical, hands-on role
Has a positive attitude and is willing to learn

Experience in a bakery, professional kitchen or food production environment would be an advantage, but isn't required.

What We Offer

Starting salary of circa £25,000 per year, pro rata (DOE)
