We are seeking an experienced and driven Head of Vegetation to lead and grow our Vegetation Management division. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery of vegetation works across multiple rail frameworks and clients.
The Role
Reporting to the Operations Director, the Head of Vegetation will provide strategic and operational leadership for all vegetation activities, ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, quality and client satisfaction.
You will be responsible for managing operational teams, supporting business growth, developing client relationships and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the operational delivery of vegetation management projects across the rail sector.
- Develop and implement business strategies to support sustainable growth of the vegetation division.
- Ensure compliance with Network Rail standards, industry legislation and company procedures.
- Promote and drive a positive safety culture throughout all operations.
- Manage client relationships and act as the senior point of contact for vegetation-related activities.
- Oversee resource planning, workforce competency management and succession planning.
- Ensure all staff, subcontractors, plant and equipment remain compliant and fit for purpose.
- Monitor project performance, programme delivery, commercial outcomes and profitability.
- Support tender submissions, framework opportunities and business development activities.
- Lead, mentor and develop operational teams to maximise performance and engagement.
- Ensure environmental obligations and sustainability commitments are achieved across all projects.
- Support investigations, audits, assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking ForEssential
- Significant experience within rail vegetation management and arboriculture operations.
- Proven leadership experience managing large operational teams.
- Strong knowledge of Network Rail standards and rail infrastructure environments.
- NPTC Arboriculture qualifications.
- PTS and OLEC 1 certification.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, environmental and quality management systems.
Desirable
- LOLER Inspector qualification.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- SSSTS, SMSTS or equivalent management qualification.
- IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH qualification.
- Experience leading framework delivery and business growth activities.
- Commercial and budget management experience.
