Job Overview

Summer Play Leaders required:

Across the summer to work Mondays and Wednesdays 9.15 - 4.45pm, Thursdays 1.15 - 4.45 and Fridays 9.15 - 1.15pm. These are required from the 22nd of July until the 3rd of September.

To create an environment where the self-esteem, health, confidence and social skills of disabled children (0-19yrs) and their siblings can be increased through accessible play and recreation.

To provide parents with an opportunity to meet others who have disabled children, to lessen their isolation and to increase their ability to support their children through play.

To help the community gain understanding and acceptance of disability issues so they can include disabled children within their own community activities.

Specifically a play leader will assist children and young people to:

· Access numerous play activities as well as therapeutic resources

· Meet new friends and have fun

· Feel understood and accepted

· Develop physically and socially

· Gain independence and build self-confidence

· Enjoy a stimulating and creative environment

· Have the freedom to explore and take risks

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In order to offer a variety of safe and accessible play activities for disabled children, their parents, siblings and friends, you will:

Welcome all visitors and show newcomers around

Offer support to parents and carers with regard to activities and resources and provide a listening ear when necessary

Provide accurate information and support where relevant, enhancing the welcoming, safe and secure experience.

Be responsible for preparing and providing play activities such as art and craft projects,

· motivating, supporting and enabling children of all abilities to participate in play activities and offering advice and guidance on the use of all equipment

· facilitating games and activities

· encouraging freeplay

· Prepare topical or seasonal displays around the site, using children’s work where relevant

· Be jointly involved in daily evaluations at the end of sessions

· Tidy play areas at the end of each day or when necessary

· Supervise and ensure safe use of play areas as requested by the Manager

· Lead any volunteers who are present in assisting play

· Assist in maintaining records such as daily site checks, accident & incident reports etc.

· Be involved in the day to day maintenance of the site

OTHER DUTIES

· Attend relevant training

· Attend staff meetings

· Open and close the building when necessary

· Be willing to be flexible as needed with regards to working hours on occasion

Pay: £10.85-£12.71 per hour
