Summary of the role:
Ministry of Sound is seeking an experienced and creative Lighting Technician to join our Production team. This role is primarily focused on the operation, programming, maintenance and continuous development of our world-class lighting systems, helping to create exceptional nightclub and event experiences.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering immersive lighting shows for club nights, live performances, private hires and special events whilst supporting the wider production operation, including audio, video, rigging and technical infrastructure. This is a hands-on role requiring excellent technical knowledge, creative flair, attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced live entertainment environment.
Lighting Operations & Programming
- Program, operate and maintain lighting systems across all Ministry of Sound spaces.
- Create, update and develop dynamic lighting shows for club events, live performances, private hires and special projects.
- Work closely with resident and guest DJs, artists, promoters and event producers to deliver impactful visual experiences.
- Advance technical lighting requirements for artists, promoters and clients.
- Ensure all lighting fixtures, control systems, networking and associated infrastructure remain fully operational.
- Troubleshoot and resolve lighting system faults efficiently and professionally.
- Maintain accurate documentation of lighting systems, show files and fixture inventories.
- Research and propose innovative lighting technologies and creative production concepts.
- Keep up to date with industry trends, products and programming techniques.
Technical Production Support
- Assist with the operation and delivery of all club nights, private hire events and corporate functions.
- Support event setup, changeovers, rehearsals and show delivery.
- Assist with technical planning, production advancing and scheduling as required.
- Support loading and installation of visiting production and electrical infrastructure.
- Set up and support DJ equipment and performance systems across all event spaces.
- Assist with décor installations, rigging and special event production elements.
- Become proficient in all in-house technical systems, including video and broadcast platforms.
Systems Maintenance
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for all production equipment.
- Service and assist with repairs to lighting, audio, video, rigging and special effects equipment.
- Maintain stock levels of consumables, spare parts and technical inventory.
- Manage and maintain accurate asset registers for production equipment.
- Assist with procurement of lighting and technical equipment when required.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained to the highest operational standard.
Audio & Venue Systems
- Support the maintenance and monitoring of the venue's world-renowned sound systems.
- Carry out routine system checks and basic audio troubleshooting.
- Assist with sound system configuration and performance monitoring where required.
- Conduct noise level monitoring and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and venue policies.
Teamwork & Leadership
- Support the Technical Manager in the coordination and delivery of technical operations.
- Work collaboratively with internal departments, promoters, artists, suppliers and contractors.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external production and rental partners.
- Attend production meetings and contribute to event planning and technical solutions.
- Assist in delivering departmental objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain the highest levels of professionalism, showmanship and guest experience.
Health & Safety
- Maintain a proactive approach to health and safety at all times.
- Ensure safe working practices when working at height, rigging, handling electrical equipment and managing temporary installations.
- Follow all venue procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Monitor contractor compliance with venue health and safety standards.
Person Specification
Essential
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a large-scale nightclub, live event venue, concert venue or entertainment environment.
- Strong experience operating and programming professional lighting consoles (Avolites preferred).
- Excellent understanding of intelligent lighting fixtures, DMX, networking protocols and lighting control systems.
- Experience creating and maintaining show files for live club environments.
- Knowledge of lighting maintenance, fault finding and repair procedures.
- Experience working with headline artists, touring productions and corporate clients.
- Understanding of safe rigging practices and working at height.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Comfortable working flexible hours, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
- Strong IT skills across Mac and Windows platforms.
- Ability to use hand and power tools and carry out basic electrical and electronic repairs.
- A proactive, solutions-focused attitude and ability to work under pressure.
Desirable
- Experience with media servers, video systems and LED screen technologies.
- Experience with audio systems, digital mixing consoles and loudspeaker management systems.
- Knowledge of Dante, Art-Net, sACN and entertainment network infrastructure.
- IPAF, PASMA or relevant access equipment qualifications.
- Formal electrical, production or entertainment technology qualification.
- Experience with broadcast and streaming workflows.
- First Aid certification.
