Would you like to work for the charity that cares for hundreds of historic sites in every corner of England? We are looking for a Visitor Assistant to join us at Whitby Abbey working 26 hours per week in the summer, and 0hrs in the winter.

No history background? No problem. What is important to us is a passion for people and excellent customer service. You will enjoy working with others as part of a team and understand what makes excellent customer service to deliver an engaging visitor experience to a diverse audience.

Perched dramatically on the clifftops overlooking the North Sea, Whitby Abbey is one of England's most iconic historic landmarks. Its striking Gothic ruins, rich history, and breathtaking coastal setting attract visitors from around the world. The site offers an inspiring environment where history, heritage, and exceptional visitor experiences come together. Working at Whitby Abbey means being part of a passionate team dedicated to preserving an internationally recognised historic site while welcoming thousands of visitors each year to explore its fascinating past and spectacular views.

By joining us as a Whitby Abbey Visitor Assistant, you will be part of an amazing team of employees and volunteers, ensuring visitors have a great time from the moment they arrive until they say goodbye. Through your recommendations, you will help personalise their visit - this could include talking about the benefits of English Heritage membership or recommending things to see and do on site. You will also contribute to making sure your site is accessible, safe and well presented at all times.

It is a varied role - some days will be busy from start to finish and others quieter, especially on the wetter days! Some paid or voluntary experience with the public is beneficial but full training and support is provided as part of your induction. You will be required to work weekends and Bank Holidays, more information will be provided at interview.
