Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team supporting young people aged 16 to 18+ in supported accommodation.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing personalised care, guidance, and support to help young individuals develop independence and achieve their potential. This role involves working closely with young people, implementing care plans, and fostering a safe and nurturing environment. The position offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on young people's lives through empathetic support and professional commitment.

Our homes are staffed up to 24 hours per day, and this role includes: shift work (including evenings and weekends) and sleep-in duties

Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day support to young people, assisting with their personal, social, and emotional development
Follow safeguarding procedures and raise concerns appropriately
Implement and review individualised placement plans in collaboration with the team and external agencies
Encourage independence by supporting young people with daily living skills such as budgeting, cooking, and personal hygiene
Promote a safe environment by monitoring behaviour and intervening where necessary to de-escalate conflicts or concerns
Support young people with emotional regulation and behaviours of concern
Facilitate activities that promote social inclusion, education, or employment opportunities
Maintain accurate records of support provided, progress made, and any incidents in accordance with organisational policies
Support young people in preparing for independent living, including liaising with educational institutions or employment providers as required
Contribute to a positive, proactive team environment
Foster effective communication with colleagues, young people, families (where appropriate), and external professionals

Skills

Minimum age: 21 years old (due to regulatory requirements)
Experience working with children or vulnerable young people is essential
Strong communication skills to effectively engage with young people and colleagues
Experience working with young people displaying challenging behaviours (essential)
Experience with exploitation (CSE/CCE) (desirable)
Experience supporting young parents (desirable)
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a supportive manner
Good organisational skills to manage multiple responsibilities and maintain accurate documentation
Basic IT skills for record keeping and reporting purposes
Valid driving licence is advantageous for supporting outings or appointments
Empathy, patience, and resilience are essential qualities for this role
Knowledge of child protection procedures and safeguarding policies is preferred but not essential; training will be provided if necessary

Qualifications & Training

QCF/NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Health & Social Care (Children) or Youth related qualification (or willingness to complete within required timeframe)
Mandatory training provided, including: Safeguarding, Child Sexual & Criminal Exploitation, Professional Boundaries and Restraint/Intervention Training

Working Conditions

Bank/ emergency and short notice cover position only
Weekend and bank holiday shifts
Sleep-ins
Flexibility to work across different homes if needed
Additional hours may be required to cover service needs
Enhanced DBS required prior to employment
