Weatherseal Windows Ltd is a Leicester-based home improvement specialist with over two decades of experience in the windows and doors industry. We install PVCu windows and doors across Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, serving homeowners to consistently high standards.
We are a Certass-registered Competent Person Scheme member, which means every installation we complete is self-certified to full Building Regulations compliance. Our reputation is built on the quality of our people and the pride they take in their work. We are now looking to appoint an additional experienced installer to join our team on a self-employed CIS basis.
We are a growing company with clear ambitions to expand our installation capacity and operational structure over the coming years. For the right person, this role has the potential to develop into something greater as the business grows.
The Role
You will work on customer properties throughout our two-county trading area, carrying out the full installation of PVCu windows and doors to Weatherseal’s exacting standards. Jobs are surveyed and co-ordinated in advance, so you will arrive on site with a clear brief and everything you need to get straight to work.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Installation of PVCu windows, doors, French doors, composite doors, and associated glazed units to manufacturer specification and Building Regulations standards
- Measuring and preparing window and door openings to ensure precise fitting and alignment
- Application of mastic seals, cills, trims, and finishing details to a consistently high standard
- Safe removal and responsible disposal of existing frames, minimising any disturbance to surrounding structures
- Correct fitting and adjustment of all hardware, including locking mechanisms, hinges, and restrictors
- Adherence to health and safety regulations throughout every installation
- Post-installation quality checks to ensure every job leaves the customer fully satisfied
- Maintaining a clean, professional, and respectful working environment on every customer’s property
- Completion of relevant paperwork and registration of installations through the Certass Competent Person Scheme
- Clear communication with the office team regarding any on-site variations or issues
What We Are Looking For
Essential:
- A minimum of five years’ hands-on experience in PVCu window and door installation
- Certass Competent Person Scheme registration - or a genuine commitment to complete the online assessment and on-site assessment as part of the onboarding process (full guidance provided)
- Registration as a CIS subcontractor with HMRC, or the ability to register prior to commencing work
- Your own van, in good working order and appropriately insured for business use
- Your own full set of installation tools
- A meticulous approach to quality, finish, and customer care
- The ability to work independently and manage your own time on site
- A valid UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Experience with composite or aluminium door systems
- Familiarity with Building Regulations Part L (energy efficiency) and Part K (safety glazing)
- Previous experience working within a Certass or FENSA-registered company
A Note on Certass Registration
As a Certass-registered company, we require all active installers to hold individual registration under the Certass Competent Person Scheme. This allows our installers to self-certify completed work to Building Regulations - a legal requirement for every replacement window and door installation in the United Kingdom.
If you are not already Certass-registered, we will support you through the process. The assessment comprises an online knowledge element covering current Building Regulations and an on-site practical assessment. This is not a barrier to application; it is a mark of professional standing that we will help you achieve.
Employment Basis - CIS Self-Employment
This position is offered on a self-employed basis under the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS). This is not a PAYE role. Applicants must be, or be prepared to become, registered with HMRC as a CIS subcontractor before commencing work.
Under CIS, Weatherseal Windows Ltd will verify your registration status with HMRC and make the appropriate deductions from labour payments, which are forwarded to HMRC as advance payments against your income tax and National Insurance liability. You will be responsible for submitting your own annual Self Assessment tax return. If you need guidance on CIS registration, we are happy to point you in the right direction.
