Full job description

An opportunity for a reliable and trustworthy person with good local area knowledge to drive school minibuses to transport pupils to and from school on a daily basis. There may also be occasions when assistance is needed to transport pupils on trips to London and local areas.

The successful candidate must hold a D1 driving licence with driving experience. You will be willing to train towards your full bus licence.

You must be a team player who is able to put the safety and welfare of our pupils and school site at the forefront of all they do.

Department overview

The transport team sits within the Bursar’s department and is responsible for the fleet of minibuses and ensuring all bus users get driven safely between their homes and school.

Role Specification

To transport students in a safe and timely fashion, to and from school based on a pre-determined route.
Responsible for driving one of the school bus routes. You will be assigned one of the set daily routes which cover a wide area including Putney and Wimbledon and more local areas such as Claygate, Weybridge, Esher and Walton.
To be responsible for the health, safety and welfare of pupils at all times when in or around the minibus.
Utilise in-app and online software to ensure you have the correct passenger information, routes and stops and to keep parents informed of your progress.
To be responsible for the behaviour of pupils once on the minibus, ensuring seatbelts are worn at all times and all baggage is stowed appropriately to maintain the safety of passengers at all times.
To provide a safe and friendly service at all times, conforming to Health and Safety requirements and safe practices in respect of Health and Safety at Work Act, Highway Code, Road Traffic Act, and other relevant legislation and practices.
To ensure the safe return of keys to the transport office at the end of each journey.
To report any accidents or damages incurred to the vehicle and any possible offences under the Road Traffic Acts as soon as possible to the Facilities Manager.
Work in accordance with the School’s core values of Honesty, Responsibility, Respect and Kindness.
Establish and maintain efficient and effective working relationships with the wider community of the School.
Play a full part of the life of the school community.

Skills and Experience

Essential

Driving licence with no more than 6 points and minimum of 2 years’ driving experience and excellent record of safe and competent driving

D1 (101) licence essential

An organised approach and excellent time management skills

The ability to work well as part of a team

Must be presentable, to act as an ambassador for the School at all times

Excellent communication skills able to liaise with parents, pupils and the transport team effectively

Ability to use apps and online software to check passengers onto buses

Desirable

Previous experience in a similar role and / or minibus driving
Experience of working in a school environment

Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge e.g. oil and other essential fluids checks

Knowledge of local area
