Job Title: Holiday Park Development Excavator Operator
Location: Scotland (Multi-Site Role)
Reports To: Development Manager
Job Purpose
The Holiday Park Development Excavator Operator is responsible for supporting the
construction, expansion, and improvement of Horizon Holiday Parks across Scotland.
Working as part of the in-house Development Team, the role involves operating plant
machinery, carrying out groundwork and infrastructure projects, and assisting with the
development of new holiday accommodation areas and park facilities.
This is a multi-site role requiring regular travel between parks. The successful candidate will
work closely with colleagues, contractors, and park teams to deliver development projects
safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operation & Site Development
- Operate plant machinery safely and efficiently across multiple Horizon Holiday Park
locations.
- Carry out excavation, trenching, grading, and site preparation works.
- Prepare bases and infrastructure for new holiday lodges, caravans, and park facilities.
- Assist with drainage installation, utilities, and service trench construction.
- Construct and maintain internal park roads, pathways, and hardstanding areas.
- Support landscaping and environmental improvement projects.
- Assist with park expansion, redevelopment, and infrastructure improvement projects.
- Work to project plans and specifications to ensure works are completed to the required
standard.Teamwork & Project Delivery
- Work collaboratively with the Development Manager, contractors, and wider park
teams.
- Support colleagues to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and on
schedule.
- Contribute positively to a team-focused working environment.
- Communicate effectively with all departments and external contractors.
- Be flexible and willing to assist with a variety of development and construction tasks
as required.
Machinery Maintenance & Safety
- Conduct daily machinery inspections and pre-start checks.
- Carry out basic maintenance and housekeeping of plant equipment.
- Report defects, damage, or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Ensure machinery remains safe, compliant, and operational.
- Follow all company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
Site Compliance & Standards
- Maintain high standards of health and safety across all development sites.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company policies and industry
regulations.
- Assist with site documentation, inspections, and compliance requirements where
necessary.
- Promote safe working practices and contribute to a positive safety culture.
Plant Experience Required
Candidates must have experience operating:
- Excavators (various sizes)
- JCB 3CX Backhoe Loader
- Telehandler
- Roller Compactor
Additional plant machinery experience would be advantageous.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience operating construction, groundwork, or civil engineering plant
machinery.
- Relevant CPCS, NPORS, or equivalent plant operator qualifications.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Willingness to travel extensively between Horizon Holiday Parks throughout
Scotland. Experience in groundwork, drainage, infrastructure, or civil engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Reliable, flexible, and self-motivated approach to work.
Desirable
- Experience working on holiday park, leisure, residential, or commercial development
projects.
- SSSTS or SMSTS certification.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Experience with utility installation and infrastructure works.
- Towing licence and experience transporting plant equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret site drawings and plans.

Working Hours
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Hours will vary depending on project requirements and site locations.

Pay: £17.18-£20.00 per hour
