Online Community Coordinator

Job description

The online community coordinator will help create a safe, welcoming online community where disabled people can connect, share experiences and discuss topics that matter to them.

They will work alongside online community coordinators and online community children and family specialists. Together, the team moderates discussions, creates content, manages newsletters, answers member queries, supports volunteers and runs community engagement programmes.

Permanent, full time (35 hours a week, will include some evenings and weekends)

Location: Ideally based near one of office locations (Cardiff, Leeds, London or Manchester) but the role will primarily involve working at home.

The role

The online community coordinator’s main responsibilities are to make the online community a safe and supportive place.

You will do this by:

Moderating community content, including managing, moving, renaming and organising discussions, as well as our shared inboxes.
Welcoming, supporting and engaging community members, responding to queries and signposting relevant resources.
Creating, publishing and organising engaging community content, including discussions, blogs, games, videos, podcasts and newsletters.
Recruiting, training, supporting and coordinating volunteer moderators and contributors.
Promoting community safety by following safeguarding procedures and escalating concerns appropriately.
Tracking and reporting on community performance, engagement and service data.
Running community engagement programmes and initiatives to encourage participation.
Supporting colleagues and volunteers through regular debriefing and reflective practice.
Building relationships with external organisations to promote community content and opportunities.

About you

We are looking for someone who enjoys connecting with people and helping online communities thrive. You are a confident communicator who can build positive relationships, make fair decisions and create welcoming online spaces where people feel supported and respected.

You are comfortable handling sensitive situations, responding to a range of enquiries and balancing competing priorities. You will have a good eye for detail, be confident using digital tools and enjoy finding practical solutions to problems.

You are someone who:

Writes clear, accurate and accessible content in plain English.
Can communicate professionally and sensitively with people, including when dealing with challenging or emotional situations.
Uses good judgement to make fair and evidence-based decisions while following policies, procedures and safeguarding processes.
Builds positive relationships with community members, volunteers, colleagues and partners.
Is organised, able to manage competing priorities and maintain attention to detail.
Works independently, takes initiative and manages their workload effectively.
Is confident learning and using digital systems and online platforms.
Can analyse information, solve problems and know when to escalate issues.
Enjoys working collaboratively and contributing to shared goals.

It would be great if you also bring:

Experience encouraging participation and engagement in online communities.
Experience creating content for newsletters, blogs, websites or social media.
Experience supporting volunteers, peer supporters or community members.
An understanding of the social model of disability.
Experience using data and insight to improve services, engagement or member experience.
Basic HTML or web content editing skills.
