The post is suitable for intensivists wishing to enhance their specialist experience in all aspects of adult cardiothoracic critical care, including transplantation, mechanical assist devices, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, focused ultrasound examinations and transoesophageal echocardiography TOE. Applicants will be expected to have completed or be within two years of completing specialist training in their parent specialty.
This post is offered as a six-month appointment, with an expected start date of October 2026; however, an earlier start date may be possible for the successful candidate.
- To participate fully in the delivery of critical care services, research, and training and educational programmes;
- To maintain a logbook and appropriate records of progress;
- To participate in regular performance reviews;
- To provide an out of hours' service;
o The ICU Specialist Registrars (Resident) or ICU Fellow will provide immediate support for the critical care areas and emergency resuscitation support for the entire hospital;
o The daytime ICU cover is provided by 3 ICU consultants along with a minimum of four doctors, including ICU fellows, ICU higher specialty trainees, Internal Medicine trainees and Foundation Programme Doctors. At night, there are 3 registrar level doctors, plus cover for the Enhanced Recovery Unit is provided by a resident doctor in Anaesthesia.
- To complete accurate records, such as patient notes and medical audit records;
- Participation in teaching of medical staff, undergraduate students and other non-medical staff as required by the hospital;
- Participation in clinical audit activities
- To adhere to the hospital and departmental policy for the booking and taking of leave;
- The Department is actively involved in both basic and clinical research. Encouragement is given to participate in on-going research projects;
- Trainees will be required to observe all hospital policies and procedures, and appropriate clinical procedures.
