Part time reflective of need

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced and child-centred Speech and Language Therapist to support children and young people aged 6–14 years within an independent school setting. This is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with families and school staﬀ to provide high-quality therapeutic support for neurodiverse students and those with speech, language and communication needs.

The successful candidate will be employed privately by parents whilst delivering therapy onsite within the school environment, enabling integrated and consistent support throughout the school day.

About the role

The role involves supporting children and young people with a range of profiles and needs, including:

Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
Speech sound diﬃculties
Social communication diﬀerences
Receptive and expressive language diﬃculties
Emotional regulation and communication needs
Sensory and communication-related barriers to learning

The therapist will work closely with parents, SENCOs, teachers and pastoral staﬀ to ensure therapy recommendations are practical, embedded and supportive of each child’s educational and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities

Assess speech, language and communication needs of pupils aged 6–14 years
Plan and deliver individual and/or small group therapy sessions onsite within school
Develop tailored intervention programmes and communication strategies
Support neurodiverse students in accessing learning, social interaction and emotional regulation
Liaise regularly with parents regarding targets, progress and recommendations
Work collaboratively with school staﬀ to implement communication-friendly strategies within the classroom
Provide written reports, recommendations and contribution towards support planning where appropriate
Support staﬀ understanding of speech, language and communication needs through advice and consultation
Maintain accurate clinical records in line with professional standards

Essential Requirements

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
HCPC registration
Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
Experience working with children and young people aged 6–14 years
Experience supporting neurodiverse children and young people
Strong understanding of speech, language and communication diﬃculties within educational settings

Desirable

Experience working within schools or independent education settings
Experience delivering social communication interventions
Knowledge of sensory-informed and neuroaﬃrming approaches
Experience contributing to EHCP provision and recommendations

Working Arrangement

Flexible working arrangements available
Part-time or sessional applications considered
Therapy space provided onsite within school
Privately commissioned by parents with integrated school liaison
