Trainee Site Manager (1-Year Fixed Term Contract)
Location: Southport, Lancashire

As part of our continued development and commitment to investing in future talent, we are seeking a motivated and ambitious Trainee Site Manager to join our team in the Southport, Lancashire area. This role is offered on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate. Candidates will need to have or be currently working towards a degree or HNC in a construction-related subject.

Walter Thompson (Contractors) Ltd are one of the largest privately owned construction companies in the Northeast of England, undertaking contracts up to a value of £15 million across a wide range of sectors including Education, Health Care, Leisure, Ministry of Defence / Defence Estates, Office, Public Service, Restoration, and Retail.

This placement offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting our experienced Project team on live construction projects. You will develop practical skills and a strong understanding of site operations in a professional and supportive environment.

The Role

As a Trainee Site Manager, you will support the site management team with:

Support the day‑to‑day management of construction activities on site
Assist with planning, sequencing and coordinating works to meet programme targets
Help ensure works are delivered safely, in line with health, safety and environmental requirements
Support quality control processes and inspections to ensure works meet specifications
Assist with managing subcontractors, site inductions and supervision of works
Learn how drawings, schedules and programmes are used to manage site operations
Support site reporting, record keeping and progress tracking
Work closely with commercial, design and engineering teams to help resolve site issues
Build strong working relationships with subcontractors, clients and the wider project team
