Wine Server / Server

We're looking for a knowledgeable and service-focused Wine Server to join the front-of-house team at Chef's Table – one of Chester's most respected independent restaurants.
This is a specialist floor role suited to someone with a strong foundation in wine and experience delivering service in a fine dining or wine-led environment. While not a dedicated sommelier position, the successful candidate will take a leading role in wine service throughout the restaurant, helping to deliver a seamless experience for guests whilst supporting the wider front-of-house team.
We are seeking someone who already possesses a solid understanding of wine, enjoys engaging with guests, and can confidently manage the practical demands of wine service within a busy restaurant environment.
About the Role
Wine service is a key part of the Chef's Table experience, particularly during tasting menu services, wine events and busy weekend evenings.
The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding guests through our wine offering, recommending wines and pairings, and ensuring that wine service is delivered with precision and attention to detail throughout the meal.
Alongside guest interaction, this role requires strong organisational skills and an ability to coordinate wine service across multiple tables and courses simultaneously. You will work closely with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure pairings are delivered accurately, wines are served at the correct time and temperature, and every guest receives a polished and professional experience.
During quieter periods, you will work as part of the wider floor team, working on section and contributing to the overall service operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering professional wine service throughout lunch and dinner service
- Confidently recommending wines and discussing styles, producers, regions and pairings with guests
- Presenting, opening, decanting and serving wines to a high standard
- Managing wine pairings across multiple tables during tasting menu service
- Coordinating the timing of wine service with food service throughout the restaurant
- Maintaining guest glasses throughout service and ensuring wines are served at their best
- Organising and replenishing wine stations and service equipment
- Assisting with cellar organisation, stock rotation and inventory management
- Developing and maintaining a detailed knowledge of the wine list and seasonal menus
- Supporting the wider front-of-house team to deliver exceptional service standards
What We're Looking For
- Minimum WSET Level 2 (or equivalent demonstrable knowledge)
- At least one year of experience in a fine dining restaurant, Michelin-standard environment, or quality wine-led venue
- Strong understanding of classic wine regions, grape varieties and food pairing principles
- Confidence discussing wine with guests at varying levels of knowledge
- Experience serving and handling fine wine professionally
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Professional presentation and strong communication skills
- A self-motivated individual with a genuine passion for wine and hospitality
- An interest in continuing wine studies and professional development

Hours & Pay
DOE from £14 per hour (including tronc)
Full or part-time available
Friday and Saturday evening availability is essential
Typical shift patterns:
Lunch: 10:30am–5:00/6:00pm
Dinner: 5:00/6:00pm–10:30/11:30pm
