The Sensory Inclusion Service has a vacancy for 2 days for a qualified teacher of the deaf OR a qualified teacher for visual impairment, working term time on a peripatetic basis. Due to flexibility within the team, we can consider a candidate with either of these qualifications for this 2-day vacancy.
The post is based in Crewe, with a caseload likely to be mainly around the Crewe and Nantwich area, although travel anywhere in the local authority may be required. A clean, current driving license and a vehicle will be required.
Pay will depend on experience and is outlined below:
MPS Min - £32,916 - MPS Max - £45,352 plus SEN min - £2787 to SEN Max £5497
UPS min - £47,472 - UPS Max - £51,048 plus SEN min - £2787 to SEN Max £5497
About the role
The successful candidates will be providing support to children and young people with hearing loss or vision impairment in homes, settings and schools, as well as supporting and working collaboratively with parents, carers and a range of professionals. They will be part of friendly and proactive team who are strongly committed to providing an excellent service for children and young people with hearing loss and / or vision impairment. Teachers on the team receive continuous professional development and performance management.
About you
Candidates should have experience of working with children and young people with hearing loss or vision impairment, families, school and settings and a range of other professionals. They must be committed to multi agency working, and to safeguarding children and young people.
Qualified teachers of the deaf should have a qualification in British Sign Language level 2. They should have a good knowledge of the development of language and communication in children and young people with hearing loss. They should have good knowledge of Audiology, as well as experience of carrying out assessments, writing reports and attending annual reviews and multi-agency meetings. They should be confident advising settings around reasonable adjustments required to enable access for children and young people.
Qualified teachers for visual impairment should have good knowledge of technology and braille. They should be confident using assessments of functional vision, and considering overall needs of children in terms of visual and tactual development, social skills, access and independence. They should be confident in writing reports and attending annual reviews and multi-agency meetings. They should be experienced in advising settings around reasonable adjustments required to enable access for children and young people.
Candidates should be able to work well as part of a team; have excellent interpersonal skills; and have a strong commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people with hearing loss and / or visual impairment. Flexibility is also essential within this role.
