Account Manager & Payroll Officer

Location: Crewkerne
Salary: £22,000 per annum
Hours: 30 hours per week
Employment Type: Part‑Time (Permanent)

Chalmers & Co (SW) Limited is a well‑established and growing accountancy practice based in Crewkerne. We provide a comprehensive range of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, taxation, and advisory services to clients across the South West. Our team is committed to delivering accurate, reliable, and friendly support while maintaining high professional standards.

Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented Account Manager & Payroll Officer to join our practice on a part‑time basis. This role is ideal for someone with experience in an accountancy practice who is looking to broaden their skills and take on a varied workload.

We welcome applicants who are AAT‑qualified or currently studying AAT, ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA, or a similar accounting qualification.

Key Responsibilities

1. Payroll

Prepare weekly and monthly payrolls for a range of clients
Communicate with clients to ensure payroll information is received on time
Handle payroll queries and issue/upload payroll reports
Notify clients of PAYE liabilities due
Send pension letters, process opt‑outs, and manage pension re‑declarations
Set up and close payroll schemes with HMRC
Resolve discrepancies between payroll submissions and HMRC
Process payrolls mainly on Nomi, with some on Sage

2. Bookkeeping & VAT

Bookkeeping for allocated clients
Prepare and submit VAT returns

3. Accounts

Prepare accounts to Trial Balance stage for review
Assist with year‑end accounts work
Support clients with accounting software queries

4. Skills & Experience Required

Experience working within an accountancy practice (essential)
AAT qualified or studying AAT/ACCA/ICAEW/CIMA (preferred)
Strong understanding of bookkeeping, VAT, and payroll
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Confident using accounting and payroll software
Strong communication and client‑service skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
