Title: Youth Intervention Leader

Salary: £18 per hour

Be Inspired Youth & Community CIC is a South London social enterprise dedicated to supporting young people to make positive life choices and thrive, even in the face of serious challenges. We specialise in working with young people affected by serious youth violence and criminal exploitation, offering high‑risk mentoring, therapy, community programmes and employability support that are free at the point of access across several London boroughs. Our work is rooted in trauma‑informed practice and contextual safeguarding, and our programmes are shaped around the real experiences of the young people and communities we serve.

We bring together the power of sport, creativity and therapeutic support to ignite and strengthen hope and opportunities in young people. Each year, we support 700 young people through mentoring, therapy, school‑based interventions, community boxing, yoga and jiu‑jitsu sessions, and pathways into training and employment. By breaking down barriers and building up opportunities, we work alongside young people, families and partners to reduce violence, build resilience and create safer, more connected communities.

THE ROLE

The Youth Intervention Leader will provide a high‑risk mentoring service to young people in home, school and community settings, focusing on those affected by:

Serious youth violence and weapon carrying
Gang affiliation and associations with local street groups
Grooming and exploitation (including county lines, local drug supply and CSE/CE)

You will build strong, trusting relationships with young people, offering one‑to‑one and group mentoring, advocacy and practical support, with a clear focus on safeguarding, wellbeing and personal development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct work with young people

Foster positive, boundaried relationships and maintain high levels of engagement through 1:1 mentoring, group work and outreach.
Use engagement “hooks” such as sport, art, music or other creative activities to motivate and sustain participation.
Deliver structured mentoring interventions over approximately 12–20 weeks, tailored to risk and need, and agree clear goals with each young person.
Lead interactive sessions and discussions that build communication skills, teamwork, problem‑solving, leadership and self‑confidence.

Risk, safeguarding and multi‑agency working

Work within a multi‑agency framework with social care, youth justice, youth engagement teams, schools and police, including joint meetings and case discussions.
Complete risk assessments before starting work with each young person, review risks regularly and act promptly on any emerging concerns.
Share safeguarding concerns immediately with management and the professional network, in line with BE Inspired policies and procedures.

Case management, recording and outcomes

Follow the BE Inspired mentoring workflow, including referral discussions, allocation, joint introductions with referrers and planned closure.
Use Upshot to create and maintain registers, input attendance for all sessions (including DNAs) and complete detailed case notes within 48 hours.
Complete the BE Inspired Outcomes Measurement Tool with young people at the start and end of interventions, and review progress throughout to shape the intervention plan.
Monitor and evaluate outcomes using questionnaires, feedback forms and other tools, contributing to case studies and learning for future programme development.
Provide regular updates to referrers (e.g. weekly brief emails on attendance, topics covered and any safeguarding issues).

Professional practice and teamwork

Attend regular supervision with the Team Manager and participate in case reviews, reflective practice and quality assurance activities.
Plan and schedule sessions using Google Calendar, adhering to lone‑working procedures and informing management of session times and locations
Pursue ongoing professional development in youth work, trauma‑informed practice, AMBIT, restorative practice and related areas.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

Experience of working with young people facing multiple disadvantages, ideally including serious youth violence, exploitation, gangs or criminal justice involvement.
Proven ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with young people and families in community, school and home environments.
Understanding of contextual safeguarding, trauma, ACEs and the risks and challenges young people face in urban settings.
Confidence working in multi‑agency settings with social workers, youth justice workers, police and school staff.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to facilitate group discussions and personal development activities.
Good written and IT skills, including accurate case recording and use of databases/case management systems (e.g. Upshot or similar) and email/online tools.
Ability to plan and manage workload, keep to deadlines for registers, notes and assessments, and maintain clear boundaries.
Commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and BE Inspired’s vision, mission and values.
Willingness to work flexibly, including some evenings and occasional weekends, and to travel across South London (primarily Croydon) and West London.
