Full job description

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Assistant to support the catering team at a care home. This role involves assisting with meal preparation and food service, ensuring high standards of food safety and hygiene. The position is part-time, offering 17 hours per week with overtime opportunities available. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking and experience in a catering or restaurant environment, contributing to the well-being and comfort of our residents through quality food service.

Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation and serving of meals in accordance with dietary requirements and menus
Support the kitchen team with food preparation tasks, including chopping, assembling, and portioning ingredients
Ensure all food safety and hygiene standards are maintained at all times
Help with cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas to uphold cleanliness standards
Serve meals to residents in a courteous and professional manner
Assist with stock control, including receiving deliveries and storing supplies appropriately
Support the team during busy periods, ensuring smooth meal service operations
Follow health and safety procedures diligently to create a safe working environment

Requirements

Previous experience in catering, cooking, or restaurant environments is desirable
Knowledge of food preparation techniques and culinary practices
Understanding of food safety regulations and hygiene standards
Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
Good organisational skills with attention to detail
Flexibility to work 17 hours per week with potential for overtime
A friendly attitude with excellent communication skills
Prior experience serving or working directly with residents or customers is advantageous
