Location: Gravesend, Kent Shift pattern: 8:00am – 8:00pm (including sleep-ins where required) Service: Residential children's home supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), aged 8–17 on admission

Job Overview

Kids Safe Haven Residential Children's Home is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Support Worker to provide high-quality, therapeutic care and support to the children and young people living in our home in Gravesend. We support children and young people aged 8–17 (on admission) who have emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). The successful candidate will play a vital role in safeguarding children and young people, promoting their safety, well-being and development, and helping them to thrive within a warm, nurturing and consistent environment.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine and lasting difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people through personalised, relationship-based care delivered in line with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and our Statement of Purpose.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day care, supervision and support for children and young people in line with their individual care plans, risk assessments and the home's therapeutic model
Build trusted, professional relationships that support each child's social, emotional and behavioural development
Support children and young people to develop independence, social and life skills through engaging, age-appropriate activities
Plan, organise and participate in recreational, educational and community activities that promote well-being, inclusion and positive experiences
Safely transport children and young people to appointments, education, activities and outings as required
Maintain accurate, timely and professional records of progress, incidents and daily activities in accordance with organisational policies and regulatory requirements
Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, social workers and other external professionals to deliver consistent, joined-up support around each child
Promote and safeguard the welfare of all children and young people, adhering to safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety procedures at all times
Respond to challenging situations calmly and consistently, using de-escalation and positive behaviour support approaches
Contribute to the development, implementation and review of personalised care plans for each child or young person
Act as a positive role model, promoting each child's identity, rights and aspirations

Skills and Experience

Experience of working with children or young people in a caring, education or support environment (residential and/or EBD experience desirable)
Strong communication skills to interact effectively and sensitively with children, families and colleagues
Ability to work independently and as part of a team within a dynamic and sometimes demanding environment
Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and responsibilities
Basic IT skills for accurate record-keeping and completion of documentation
A full, valid UK driving licence for safely transporting children and young people when required
Knowledge of child protection procedures and safeguarding policies (desirable; training will be provided)
A compassionate, patient and resilient approach, with a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people

Additional Requirements

Availability to work the home's 8:00am – 8:00pm, 8 pm - 8 am shift pattern, including weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins in line with the needs of the home
Satisfactory enhanced DBS check and references, in line with safer recruitment practice
Commitment to ongoing training and professional development, including working towards the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (if not already held)
