Contract: Permanent
Location: GMCA, Tootal Building, 54 Oxford Road, Manchester with remote working (within a reasonable commutable distance from Greater Manchester)
Salary: £44,075 - £48,226 (Subject to Job Evaluation)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Natural Environment Team at the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) as Project Manager Natural Environment. This is a key delivery role, responsible for translating GMCA’s ambitious environmental strategies into practical, on-the-ground delivery. The role will lead high-profile programmes that support nature recovery, biodiversity net gain (BNG) and integrated water management across Greater Manchester.
About the role
You will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering complex, multi-partner projects across their full lifecycle from scope and design through to implementation and ongoing operation. A central focus of the role will be leading the mobilisation and delivery of the Greater Manchester Offsite Biodiversity Net Gain Responsible Body Service. This includes taking the service from inception through to full implementation, establishing governance, operating models, and ensuring effective performance, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Alongside this, you will lead the development and delivery of a wider portfolio of programmes that support nature recovery and integrated water management, helping to deliver GMCA’s strategic priorities, including the Local Nature Recovery Strategy and wider environmental ambitions. The role requires a proactive, delivery-focused individual who can manage multiple workstreams, navigate complexity and work collaboratively across a wide network of local authorities, partners, and stakeholders.
About you:
You will be an experienced project or programme manager with a strong track record of delivering complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives. Knowledge or experience of biodiversity, planning, natural capital or environmental delivery would be advantageous.

You will join a collaborative and ambitious team working to support support nature recovery, integrated water management and the wider enhancement of Greater Manchester’s natural environment delivering multiple benefits for residents, communities and the economy. The team works closely with local authorities, government bodies, and delivery partners to deliver innovative, large-scale environmental programmes.
