Job Summary

Southern Mower Services is a specialist provider of gardening equipment service and repair, supporting residential and commercial customers in and around Horndean. The company focuses on maintaining and repairing equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and other powered garden machinery to ensure safe and reliable operation. Customers rely on Southern Mower Services for practical expertise, timely turnaround, and honest advice on equipment care. Team members work in a hands-on environment where quality workmanship and customer satisfaction are central priorities.

Role Description :

This is a full-time, on-site Mechanical Fitter (Gardening Equipment) role based in Horndean. The Mechanical Fitter will inspect, diagnose, and repair a range of gardening machinery, including lawn mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, and small engines. Daily tasks include dismantling and reassembling mechanical components, replacing worn or damaged parts, performing routine servicing, and carrying out safety checks. The role also involves implementing preventive maintenance schedules, testing equipment after repair, maintaining accurate service records, and keeping the workshop organized and safe. The Mechanical Fitter will interact with customers to clarify reported faults, explain work carried out, and provide basic guidance on safe operation and care of equipment.

Qualifications:

Previous experience with lawn mowers,strimmers,chainsaws, walk behind lawnmowers and ride on machinery, or similar mechanical services enviroment is a MUST

Experience with machinery operation and repair, preferably including gardening or light agricultural equipment.

Knowledge of maintenance and preventive maintenance practices to keep equipment reliable and safe.

Basic machining skills (e.g., drilling, grinding, or minor fabrication) to support repair and refurbishment work.

Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, plant maintenance, or a related field is beneficial.

Ability to read and follow technical manuals, diagrams, and manufacturer service instructions.

Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a methodical approach to fault-finding and repair.

Comfort working in a workshop environment, including safe use of tools and adherence to health and safety procedures.

Effective communication skills for interacting with customers and team members in a clear, respectful manner.
