About the role
We're entering a period of unprecedented growth across our Power Transmission & Distribution portfolio, delivering some of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects. As a result, we're looking for an experienced Pre-Construction Manager to lead the successful development of major projects from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) through to construction mobilisation.
What you'll be doing
This is a key leadership position sitting at the critical junction between business development and project delivery. You'll take ownership of the pre-construction phase of major power infrastructure projects, leading multidisciplinary teams through feasibility, design development, scope definition, risk management and governance.
Acting as the day-to-day client contact throughout ECI and pre-construction, you'll ensure projects are developed safely, efficiently and collaboratively, creating the foundations for successful construction delivery.
- Lead the delivery of ECI and pre-construction activities across major transmission and distribution projects
- Act as the primary client interface during the pre-construction phase
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to develop technical, commercial and delivery solutions
- Drive projects through governance and gated lifecycle processes
- Support the development of strategies that successfully transition projects into construction delivery
- Work closely with operational, commercial and design teams to develop robust project solutions
- Manage design development activities and consultant performance
- Champion Health & Safety by Design and proactive risk reduction
- Support estimating, planning and regulatory submissions
- Ensure projects are fully prepared and mobilised prior to construction handover
- Promote innovation, BIM, digital engineering and continuous improvement initiatives
- Share lessons learned and best practice across the wider business
- Support the development and mentoring of colleagues within the pre-construction function
Who we're looking for
We're looking for an organised and collaborative infrastructure professional with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and drive complex projects through their development stages.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience in a Pre-Construction Manager role within infrastructure, utilities, energy or major projects
- A background in civil engineering, electrical engineering or a related technical discipline
- Experience managing multidisciplinary project and design teams
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills
- Knowledge of project governance, risk management and lifecycle processes
- Understanding of CDM regulations and design management
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, innovation and continuous improvement
