Eglinton community Pre-School Deputy Leader
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Pre-school Leader to support the management and delivery of high-quality early childhood education within our Preschool setting.
Permanent – full time – 32.5 hours per week

Essential Criteria
· Minimum QCF level 5 Diploma in Child Care, Learning and Development.
· Previous experience in early years education setting – minimum 2 years.
Desirable Criteria
· BA Early Childhood Studies Degree.
· Training in Child Protection and Safeguarding.
· Paediatric First Aid training.
· Understanding of Social Services Minimum Standards.
· Ability to work in a team.
· Knowledge of Health and safety requirements.
· Good communication skills.
· Ability to liaise effectively with individuals within the school, parents, with other schools and with outside agencies
· IT skills.
· Confidentiality.

Purpose of Role
The Deputy leader should support the Pre-school leader in providing a safe, caring and welcoming environment for children and their families.
Responsible to
The Deputy Leader is first responsible to the Pre-school leader and then to the Management Committee.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide a rich environment for play that is welcoming and friendly to children and parents.
· Support staff to work together as a team and provide an atmosphere that is happy and positive at all sessions.
· Cover for the Pre-school Leader in the event of absence e.g. sickness or training.
· Help provide and take part in all the Preschool’s activities.
· Carry out detailed observations, record observations and assessments of individual children as directed by the Pre-school Leader.
· Listen to, encourage and support the children’s learning as appropriate.
· Contribute to team curriculum planning meetings and evaluation of the learning and teaching within the Pre-school.
· Attend and participate in all staff meetings.
· Encourage parental involvement and help to promote positive parental relationships.
· Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of the children.
· Attend relevant evening meetings and courses as directed by the Pre-school Leader or Management Committee.
· The Deputy Leader must attend mandatory training courses.
· Advise the Pre-school Leader of any matter requiring attention e.g. concerns about a child, or equipment needing repaired/replaced.
· Keep confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff of Eglinton Community Pre-school which is acquired as part of the job. Such information must not be passed on unless it is in the interests of a child. Such information should be passed to the Pre-school Leader/Designated Office for Child Protection without delay.
· Follow and implement all policies and procedures of the Pre-school.
· Comply with statutory rules and orders including Health and Safety at Work Regulations.
· Undertake any other reasonable duties/ responsibilities delegated by the Pre-school Leader or Management Committee.
· Be flexible with the working practices of the Pre-school.
· Undertake any reasonable duties as directed by the Pre-school Leader.
Contacts and Relationships
The Deputy Leader will be expected to build good working relationships at every level. Working in partnership with parents and families is highly valued and the Deputy Leader must be approachable, friendly and able to communicate effectively at all times.
Working relationships will include the following:
- Management Committee, The Pre-school Leader, All other staff/other employees,
Parents/Carers, Volunteers.
- Early Years Team, Social Services, Early Years Specialist, Department of Education and the Education Authority.

Health and Safety
The Deputy Pre-school Leader must carry out his/her duties with full regard to the Playgroup’s Health and Safety procedures.
The Deputy Pre-school Leader should ensure that safety is promoted, safety procedures are implemented at all times, and fire drills are regularly practiced.
Safeguarding
The Deputy Pre-school Leader must work to Eglinton Community Pre-school’s policies regarding Safeguarding and Child Protection, Data Protection and Confidentiality.

Pay: From £14.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
