We're looking for an experienced and dynamic Assistant Visitor Experience Manager to lead our House based Visitor Experience team at Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire. You'll act as the duty manager for the House, acting as the main point of contact for and lead operational presence in the area, managing, motivating and supporting a large team of Visitor Experience staff and volunteers. You'll be heavily embedded in the daily operation, ensuring consistency of access, presentation and service, embedding the needs and expectations of visitors at the heart of the operation.

You'll be working Wednesday to Sunday.

What you'll be doing:You’ll provide motivational line management for House based staff and volunteer teams, acting as a friendly and approachable point of contact so that teams are inspired by, engage with, and safely manage historic surroundings. You will implement staffing plans to ensure all aspects of the visitor operation are sufficiently resourced using the Planday and MyVolunteering rota systems, and identify and resolve shortages in good time. By proactively managing House staff team performance, you’ll maximise resource and efficiently use the staffing budget.

It is your responsibility to conduct daily briefings for staff and volunteer teams, ensuring consistent operational and experiential messaging. Alongside the Visitor Experience Manager, you’ll recruit talented and enthusiastic people, develop and coach them, driving strong performance through setting clear objectives and giving regular feedback and reviews.

You’ll lead on ensuring that all of the House visitor route is open on time, and be responsible for proactively ensuring consistently high standard of presentation. You’ll establish what a high standard of presentation looks like and ensure the team understand this fully.

Operational Excellence: Proven experience in an operational supervisory or managerial role in a visitor-facing environment. Hands on operational approach, leading by example
Team Management & Development: Skilled in coaching, team development, and effective communication. Excellent interpersonal skills, adept at building relationships and motivating team to achieve departmental objectives. Strong leadership and team development skills, fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging
Volunteer Management: Experience of working with and managing volunteer teams, understanding the different approach needed to reward, recognize and motivate them
Visitor Experience & Communication: Proven passion and experience in delivering exceptional visitor experiences. Ability to remain calm and confident under pressure, using sound operational judgement to resolve issues and handle in-person visitor feedback. Some public presentation and training experience
Understanding of Access requirements: sincere commitment to making sites accessible to everyone, some experience of delivering access initiatives would be beneficial
Passion for Heritage & the Arts: A genuine interest in heritage, arts management, and the natural world
Computer Literacy: Strong IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office and some experience with database systems. Some experience managing rotas would be beneficial

Sick pay – If you become ill, one week of sick pay during your first 3 months. This rises to a maximum of 3 months full pay within a rolling 12-month period. After four years you also receive a further 3 months at half pay in the rolling 12-month period.
Pension – We will top up your pension by matching any contribution you make, up to 10% of your basic salary.
Income Protection – on completing one year of continuous service, income protection may be available at 50% of basic salary for a maximum of 5 years.
Life Assurance – a lump sum of 4 times basically annual salary is payable upon death in service.
Long Service Awards – every 5 years of service, you are invited to a celebration to recognise your contribution to the organisation. A cash sum is awarded as a thank you.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Support – access to a wellbeing platform and fully funded 1:1 counselling service.
Enhanced Maternity Pay – after 12 months of continuous service, you can choose 13 weeks of maternity leave at full pay followed by 26 weeks statutory pay.
Enhanced Paternity Pay – after 12 months of continuous service, you may take 3 months of paternity leave at full pay.
Eye Care – eye care vouchers for employees who are DSE users.
Flu Jabs – free flu jabs in October.
Travel – Cycle to Work Scheme, Season Ticket Loan for train or bus, Octopus Electric Vehicle Scheme.
Deposit Loan Scheme – financial support to go towards a private rental deposit.
