Job Role
We are looking for a qualified Responsible Pharmacist to join our growing pharmacy team. You will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant operation of the pharmacy during your period of responsibility. This role involves overseeing dispensing and supply activities, supporting patient safety, ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards, and providing clinical leadership to the wider pharmacy team.

This may include supporting service development, improving operational processes, contributing to governance activities, and taking on additional responsibilities as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Take legal responsibility for the safe and effective operation of the pharmacy during your period of duty
- Ensure compliance with Responsible Pharmacist Regulations and all relevant pharmacy legislation
- Maintain the Responsible Pharmacist record and ensure RP notices are displayed correctly
- Oversee the safe dispensing, supply, and clinical checking of prescriptions
- Ensure all prescriptions supplied are clinically appropriate and legally valid
- Monitor workload and pharmacy operations to ensure patient safety is maintained at all times
- Exercise professional judgement to pause or restrict services where patient safety may be compromised
- Review prescriptions for appropriateness, dosage accuracy, interactions, and clinical concerns
- Provide clinical advice and guidance to pharmacy team members and other internal stakeholders
- Ensure online pharmacy orders are processed safely and in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Monitor for unusual ordering patterns, potential misuse, and inappropriate medicine requests
- Identify, manage, and escalate patient safety risks, incidents, and near misses
- Support the investigation and resolution of dispensing errors and operational issues
- Supervise pharmacy support staff and ensure they work within their competence and follow SOPs
- Ensure all pharmacy activities are carried out in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures
- Support the development, review, and continuous improvement of SOPs and operational processes
- Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready records
- Communicate effectively with prescribers, healthcare professionals, and internal teams
- Participate in clinical governance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement activities
- Stay up to date with current pharmacy legislation, guidance, and best practice
- Contribute to service improvements and new pharmacy initiatives
- Support operational or clinical projects when required
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Good standing with the GPhC and no restrictions affecting practice
- Strong understanding of Responsible Pharmacist Regulations and pharmacy law
- Excellent knowledge of dispensing processes, medicines optimisation, and patient safety
- Strong clinical judgement and decision-making skills
- Excellent attention to detail and risk awareness
- Strong understanding of pharmacy governance and regulatory compliance
- Ability to work independently and take accountability for pharmacy operations
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands effectively
- Comfortable working in a fast-growing startup environment
Desirable
- Experience working as a Responsible Pharmacist in a community or online pharmacy setting
- Experience with distance selling pharmacy operations
- Knowledge of UK online pharmacy regulations and compliance requirements
- Familiarity with digital pharmacy systems and prescribing platforms
- Experience supporting clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives
- Independent Prescriber qualification
- Interest in innovation and improving digital healthcare services
