Specialist Support Worker

Salary: £20 per hour

Hours: Up to 45 hours per month working each week on a Thursday–Monday pattern. View for this to increase to a potential of 90 hours over the same period.

Contract Type: Temporary 6 Months with the view to extend with funding

Job Overview

As a Specialist Support Worker, you will provide 1:1 high-quality, person-centred care to an individual requiring additional support, offering respite to their family and primary caregivers. The role involves supporting the individual with daily activities, promoting independence, ensuring safety, and enhancing overall wellbeing in a home or community setting.

You will work with adults who may be autistic, have ADHD, OCD, high sensory needs and experience of trauma.

Consistency, emotional safety, and a neurodiversity-affirming approach are essential.

Duties

Provide dedicated one-to-one support tailored to the individual’s needs, preferences, and care plan.
Assist with daily living activities such as personal care, meal preparation, and medication (where required and trained)
Support individuals to access community activities, appointments, and social opportunities
Promote independence, dignity, and choice at all times
Monitor and respond to physical and emotional needs
Maintain a safe and supportive environment, following safeguarding and health & safety procedures
Communicate effectively with families, carers, and other professionals
Keep accurate records of care provided and any changes in condition or behaviour

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

Experience working within a similar role e.g. support work, respite services, trauma informed practice.
Relevant qualifications or training e.g. Safeguarding, Health & Social Care

Skills:

Be compassionate, patient and reliable.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and use initiative.
Understanding of safeguarding and health and safety procedures.

Pay: £20.00 per hour
