About the Role

We are currently recruiting compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Support Workers to join our team supporting individuals with mental health needs, learning disabilities, autism, and complex behavioural presentations across Sussex.

This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children, young people, and adults to achieve greater independence, emotional stability, and quality of life within community and supported living environments.

You will be working closely with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to provide safe, structured, and person-centred support.

Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality emotional, behavioural, and practical support to individuals with mental health and complex needs
Support children and young people presenting with challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support approaches
Work with individuals with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), learning disabilities, and developmental conditions
Support individuals with Global Developmental Delay (GDD) and associated communication and learning needs
Assist individuals with epilepsy, ensuring correct seizure response and safety procedures are followed
Promote independence, daily living skills, and structured routines
Use de-escalation techniques to support individuals during periods of distress or dysregulation
Assist with personal care where required, always maintaining dignity and respect
Support social inclusion, education access, and community engagement
Maintain accurate and timely records and care documentation
Work collaboratively with families, professionals, and clinical teams
Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, and risk management procedures at all times
Support medication administration where trained and authorised

Requirements

Previous experience in mental health, support work, or complex care settings
Experience supporting children and young people with challenging behaviour
Experience working with individuals with autism, learning disabilities, GDD, and epilepsy
Understanding of trauma-informed care and positive behaviour support approaches
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Calm, patient, and non-judgemental approach
Ability to manage challenging situations safely and professionally
Good understanding of safeguarding and duty of care
Full UK driving licence preferred

Desirable Skills & Experience

Experience in supported living, education settings, or children’s residential care
PMVA / Breakaway / De-escalation training
Medication administration training
Experience working with dual diagnosis or complex behavioural presentations
Knowledge of epilepsy rescue medication and care plans
