Are you an experienced environmental health professional looking to take the next step in your career?

West Berkshire Council is seeking a Principal Officer to join our Public Protection Partnership service across Bracknell Forest and West Berkshire. Reporting to the Strategic Manager, you will play a key role in leading and managing the community team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to our local community.

About the Role

As the Principal Officer your responsibilities will include:

Leading and managing a team of dedicated professional officers
Ensuring effective investigation and enforcement of a wide range of community based legislation, ranging from fundamental public health protection legislation through to powers provided under anti-social behaviour.
Providing expert advice and guidance to the community and partners on a range of environmental health based law.
Use Intelligence based data to provide positive outcomes to areas in need of our service
Collaborating with other regulatory services to deliver joined-up enforcement activities
Managing complex cases and providing support to team members - including attending court and reviewing case files
Using strategic assessment to evaluate and plan new initiatives for the benefit of the community we serve
Reporting on service performance and contributing to strategic planning

In addition to the above, you will also be responsible for:

Working with the community to promote compliance and support economic growth
Delivering educational initiatives to raise awareness of community issues
Being part of a wider team of professional officers dedicated to seeing positive changes across the partnership
Participating in regional and national initiatives to tackle emerging issues

About You

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

Extensive experience working in a community protection and environmental health role, with a solid understanding of relevant legislation
Proven leadership and people management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Self-motivated and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
