JOB DESCRIPTION

Job title: Circuit Finance Officer
Employed by: North West Durham Methodist Circuit
(Charity Number 1140258 )
Location of work: Homebased with the requirement to travel to the Circuit Office and, as needed, the churches within the Circuit
Reports to: The Managing Trustees of the North West Durham Circuit and the Circuit Leadership Team (CLT) via an appointed Line Manager

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

Ensure that the administration, governance and practical operations around Circuit finances are fulfilled well.
As asked to do so, present financial statements to the Circuit Meeting (CM) and the CLT

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Be responsible to the CM for all financial income, for its proper use as directed and to provide reports and attend Circuit meetings
Ensure payment of goods and services provided to the Circuit
Record and maintain all Circuit income either from assessments or other sources and to monitor any TMCP or CFB accounts or any others the Circuit may have
Pay all bills or to approve others to pay invoices or requested payments
Manage full-cycle Circuit accounts, including year-end preparation for independent audit
Ensure Charity Commission reports and financial forms are completed and approved at CM
Meet with the church treasurers to discuss church assessments
Meet with the CLT to agree budget/assessment for the forthcoming Methodist year
Provide budgets and forecast as asked for by the Circuit stewards
Ensure annual approval of the reserves policy for the Circuit is achieved
Manage the storage of financial documents for compliance, ensuring access for 6 years
Ensure compliance with Methodist Church, Charity Commission and Legal requirements

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Prepare and deliver reports and attend relevant meetings as asked by your Line Manager
Maintain a good understanding of the culture and values of the Circuit
Undertake all other reasonable duties within your skill as asked by your Line Manager

GENERAL TERMS

Working arrangement: Homebased with the requirement to travel to the Circuit Office and, as needed, the churches within the Circuit. Therefore it is expected that the successful applicant will live within a reasonable distance and be able to travel freely across the Circuit. Some evening work
Hours: 8 per month. We are open to conversation about a core hour working arrangement with remaining contracted hours to be worked flexibly
Salary: £14.33 to £16.78 p/h DOE
Responsible to: The Managing Trustees of the North West Durham Circuit and the Circuit Leadership Team (CLT) via an appointed Line Manager
Probationary period: Offers of employment are conditional on the satisfactory completion of a -month period of probationary service. We reserve the right to extend this to a maximum of 6-months if it is felt necessary to do so
DBS Certificate: Offers of employment are conditional on a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)
Anticipated start: Summer 2026
