Job purpose:
As an active leader, you will ensure the smooth running of the Warehouse and Yard area, building excellent, professional relationships and inspiring team members to offer the best customer service possible.

You will primarily be based in the main yard and warehouse area but may also be expected to work on the sales counter when required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and oversee the yard/warehouse staff, ensuring they work as an effective team in their duties of serving customer, storing materials, keeping the yard and warehouse clean and tidy
- Organise workloads on a daily basis and direct staff accordingly
- Greet customers and establish their purchase needs, collating and loading goods onto customers vehicles.
- Provide advice on alternative and/or more suitable products where required
- If a customer has pre-loaded goods check the vehicle to ensure the goods reflect the information provided
- Organise the picking and preparation of Delivery Orders for despatch out to customers, load goods onto our own and customer’s vehicles accurately and in a timely manner, either manually or using the forklift truck / loading shovels (when fully trained and certified)
- Restocking shelves / racking of goods from overstock areas
- Unloading, unpacking, checking and storing goods received in, either manually handling goods or using the forklift truck (when fully trained and certified)
- Work proactively to ensure the yard and loading bay areas are maintained to a high standard and free of health and safety risks
- Support the Branch Manager and Assistant Branch Manager with stock control, stock ordering advice and general inventory management
- Undertake training where required to ensure that product knowledge is up to date with regards to the products stocked
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including all health & safety rules & procedures
- General warehouse and yard duties as required
- Any other duties commensurate with this role
Person Specification
- Supervisory and team management experience essential, ideally in a warehousing or yard environment
- Physically able to cope with reasonable manual handling, working in all kinds of weather & being on feet / walking for the majority of the day
- Counterbalance Fork Lift Truck certified (preferable)
- Knowledgeable of building materials, having worked previously in a builder’s merchant preferential (but not essential)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Aware of and committed to working to high levels of Health and Safety regulations
- Reliable and able to work within a team environment as well as under own initiative
- Adaptable and able to cope with fluent, changing work requirements
Pay: £35,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
