Full job description

Edison’s Café is looking for an experienced, organised and reliable Brunch Chef to independently manage our kitchen and prepare our full brunch menu.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is confident working alone in a busy, fast-paced kitchen. The successful candidate must be able to remain calm under pressure, manage several orders at once and consistently produce high-quality dishes with excellent presentation.

You will be responsible for preparing food from scratch, organising ingredients and stock, completing daily and weekly food preparation, maintaining a clean kitchen and ensuring all food safety and hygiene requirements are followed.

A valid Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate is required.

Responsibilities

Independently prepare, cook and plate Edison’s full brunch menu.
Work quickly and efficiently during busy service periods.
Maintain consistent food quality, presentation and portion sizes.
Prepare ingredients and components from scratch, including pancake batter, sauces, dressings and other menu preparations.
Produce daily and weekly batches to ensure the kitchen is prepared for upcoming services.
Complete all food preparation before service and replenish ingredients when required.
Organise fridges, freezers, dry storage and kitchen work areas.
Monitor stock levels and communicate which ingredients or supplies need to be ordered.
Check deliveries, rotate stock correctly and follow FIFO procedures.
Label, date and safely store all prepared ingredients and food products.
Minimise food waste by managing portions, stock and preparation carefully.
Keep the kitchen, equipment and food preparation areas clean and organised throughout the shift.
Complete opening, closing and cleaning duties independently.
Follow all food safety, allergen, temperature-control and hygiene procedures.
Coordinate effectively with the front-of-house team to ensure orders are prepared accurately and served on time.
Help identify improvements to kitchen organisation, preparation and service efficiency.

Skills and Requirements

Previous experience working as a brunch, breakfast or café chef.
Able to confidently manage and operate a kitchen independently.
Strong knowledge of breakfast and brunch dishes.
Experience preparing ingredients, batters, sauces and menu components from scratch.
Able to work at a fast pace while maintaining quality and presentation.
Excellent organisation, time-management and multitasking skills.
Strong understanding of food hygiene, allergen safety and safe food storage.
Valid Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate.
Good stock-management and food-preparation planning skills.
Reliable, punctual and able to take responsibility for the kitchen.
Able to remain calm and focused during busy service periods.
Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with the front-of-house team.
High standards of cleanliness, consistency and attention to detail.

This position is ideal for a confident and experienced chef who enjoys taking ownership of a kitchen and producing high-quality brunch food in a busy café environment.

Pay: £12.71-£14.00 per hour
