The Obsessed Group is an ACCA-regulated accountancy, advisory and acquisitions firm based in Chelmsford. We're growing through an active acquisitions programme and looking for a Senior Accountant to run a portfolio of clients and introduce new ones to the group. Base salary £45,000-£55,000 plus tiered signing bonuses, with strong performers earning £40,000+ on top.
The accountants we want come from one of two places. Either you work at a firm and look after your own portfolio of clients, or you're self-employed and run your own small practice, but are now looking to have the security of a salary whilst taking care of your clients in-house. You're qualified, you've done the client work yourself and you're looking for what comes next.
One thing we can't compromise on: you have to genuinely care about your clients. We work hard to build excellent relationships with our clients, and that has to be a strong focus for you, too.
Most accountants in practice never see a penny for the clients they bring in. We pay tiered signing bonuses on every fee-paying client you introduce, with no cap and the full backing of our sales team.

The role
You'll run your own portfolio of clients. Day-to-day:
- Manage the client relationships - you're the one they call, the one who signs off on their accounts, the one who knows their business
- Deliver compliance work (year-end accounts, corporation tax, VAT and payroll) to the standard you'd want for your own business
- Bring advisory work to clients where it's relevant - we have the structure to support it
- Work with the sales team on new client wins - they generate and qualify the leads, you handle the technical discussion and close on fit
- Onboard new clients into the firm cleanly - we have the systems and support staff to take the admin off you
Who this is for
This role is for you if:
- You're a qualified accountant managing a portfolio of clients at a firm and you've stopped being challenged by it
- You're self-employed running your own small practice and you've decided you'd rather do the work than run the business
- You're a qualified accountant who hasn't been looking actively, but the right move would change that
You're ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified. Or you're qualified by experience with a real portfolio behind you. Either way, you've been doing this long enough to know what good client work looks like.
What you'll bring
- A qualification - ACA, ACCA or CIMA - or qualified-by-experience with a portfolio to evidence it
- Real experience managing a portfolio of clients, either at a firm or in your own practice
- The technical skills to deliver compliance work cleanly and the judgement to spot when a client needs advisory
- Comfort with modern cloud accounting
- A network of relationships you've built - other accountants, IFAs, solicitors and business owners. The people who do well here come with connections as well as their technical skills. We expect you to be the kind of person other professionals trust enough to refer to.
- The drive to be paid for what you bring in. The structure rewards you when you introduce fee-paying clients to the group. If that idea doesn't excite you, this isn't the role.
What we offer
The package:
- Base salary £45,000-£55,000 (depending on experience)
- Tiered signing bonus structure for every fee-paying client you introduce, with no cap. Strong performers earn £40,000+ on top of base salary.

Practicalities
- Location: Chelmsford office. Full-time in the office preferred. Hybrid (minimum one day per week in the office) considered for the right person.
